well, I found a car that has all the parts I need to fix my current bonneville for a great price, but the only problem is it is in canada(toronto). What will I need to do to get the car into the US? I will most likely be using it for parts, but there is a chance that i’ll be fixing it as a winter car and will want to register it. It has a clean title to it in canada, so that isn’t and issue and I think it has all the emmissions stickers (I have spares from a car I already parted if not) Any help would be appretiated.
I also need to figure out how to get it to rochester, but this is the first issue at hand.
Bill of Sale, will get you through customs, but IIRC you need to declare if you’re going to use it for parts or register it as you come through customs. If you declare it for parts I dont believe you can reregister it. You dont need to call the border 2 days ahead of time or any of that crap people believe, I’ve called and found out on that note. Also, whatever you do, if you meet the seller at the border, dont let the scumbag lie about how much he’s paying to customs officials when they ask him and you arent around. It ends poorly with you in a back room with no windows and bright lighting.
Good information. I wouldn’t be meeting the seller at the border, rather needing to pick it up at the border. I’d probably be stating I was registering it, and since the total price paid will be under $500, I don’t think he could screw me that much. Probably would talk him into writing everything up for $100 just to make it easier on both parties.
And mike, I might be requesting your services on this one if you can do it, and I’d make sure you were monitarily or alcoholically compensated. Need to check everything else first.
