I know the lines were real…I just want to know where all the ipad owners are at, lol
I finally got around to picking one up at 8PM Saturday. They had them just sitting there, people fucking everywhere, no wait at all. For $499 it’s one hell of a device. Most people probaly would still get one if it started at 700-800.
It’s quite snappy, gets 10-12 hour battery life, is lightweight and portable, and has a stunning display. But it’s kinda disapointing you can only open 9 tabs at a time in the browser. I normally have 20-30 on my iPhone. No multitasking isn’t really a big issue if you ask me, and I can’t see how they won’t add it in a update. Typing is very easy with a damn near full size keyboard, and it’s silent. The built in speaker is loud and sounds better than any other portable device I used.
Im disappointed they didn’t release the camera connect kit with the device, It would be epic to review, edit, and upload photos on the go.
The apps are disappointingly expensive as well, they range from $5-$15. But that has little to do with Apple. They aren’t really a little button on your phone anymore, most of the limited range of apps out are amazing. Mirrors Edge and Need For Speed look like Wii graphics, quite acceptable.
All in all, it has far exceeded my expectations for a ‘large iPod touch’.
i still dont understand what it is used for
No camera, handwriting recognition, flash support, no phone, limited to WiFi (except the pricey 3G), no multitasking, no microsoft office…Seems like a waste of dough to me.
more $$ around every corner… need to buy accessories just to have it work normally… ???

yeah, I think it’s silly that the ONLY way to type with two hands is to have it in your lap. I would think that it should be a bit more table-friendly.
No camera. No flash. No USB port. No true open compatibility with anything already out there such as a serial port/USB device/etc. since everything needs to be rewritten for the 30pin Apple iPod port, and no multitasking to be functional as a travel work laptop makes me not see a purpose to it other than a big screen for movies. Plus, I already pay $30 for data on my iPhone. Not really in the mood to carry another device with an ATT data contract.
My clumsy ass drops my phone non stop and have been through 6 iPhones in 2 years… i would break this thing in a week.
Ipad os pretty bay
I just typed that on my touch. I hate typing on this thing
Part of their vision for moving computers from technical culture to popular culture is about getting away from defining these things by their technical specs.
This is pretty much it. Cars became easier to maintain once we got past hand-cranking and changing points. They’re just as complex (even moreso) but the end-user’s intimate involvement with them has diminished. You don’t even have to let a car warm up in the morning any more, or change the oil for 10K, or put water in a battery, etc. etc. Ease of operation. A modern car can easily go 100+ MPH - the average user will never use it.
Apple has a vision for the future and they are building it, one wacky device at a time.
That said, no way José, I’ll decide what functionality I want / don’t want to have.
for those worried about the resale value of apple products:

I had the news on all day when these were released and reporters kept asking the people as they were walking out with their iPads; “So what are you going to use the iPad for?”
Most people said they didn’t know, or that they’d figure it out once they got home.
lol.
^ Steve didn’t tell them what to use it for, just to buy it. They will get home and await further instructions.
mostly people just didn’t want to admit to sitting at home wasting time.

is the ipad the ultimate head unit for your car?
ironic that it’s a flash video lol
oh, and that is EASILY the best use of an iPad I have seen yet.
Is there an app to get real FM/AM stations?
haha that just about sums it up for apple fan boys
I still much rather have a laptop than a tablet but i thought this was relevant!

cliffs: multitasking, usb, sd, camera x2(front and back), HDMI out, SIM tray, Flash, bigger but lighter. however a tad more expensive… ipad killer? thoughts?
anybody who buys a tablet will already own a laptop (or desktop).
See I would actually buy the Slate.
The whole tablet thing is a little too much on the young side to really say that it’s useful or mind-blowing. My opinion on the matter is that it is just a toy to buy when you’re bored and want to spend some dough.
IMO, Apple took the cop-out route. They resized the iphone OS and added some cool apps to set it apart. However, there is nothing extremely game changing about blowing up a screen size. They should have taken it a step further to make sure it was a completely different device.
The HP Slate is nothing innovative either. It’s a skinned windows 7. Big whoop.
In the coming few years, each product coming to the market will grow. Completely new OSes will be written to better take advantage of the hardware, and you will really see the possibilities blossom. Until then, these devices are a kin to Albert Einstein learning how to walk.
