Isn’t the HP slate rated at… 2.5 hour battery life?
It looks really cool, but sub 6 hour battery life is unacceptable for me. And it’s well under 6 hours. And the display isn’t going to be IPS. I hope they get the touchscreen to feel responsive, unlike everyone else who makes a touchscreen that isn’t Apple.
I’d really like a full out, or at least damn near, Win7 tablet, with a working USB port, unlike the JooJoo. But I dot want to sit by outlets all day.
The Slate however has 2 cameras, USB, SD card slot, An actual OS unlike the iOS on the iPad. The slate also has handwriting recognition, which I suppose defines a tablet. Therefore I can see myself using it. Is it a must need?..nah not at all. It seems like it could be cool to use and possibly even helpful in business situations.
I do feel the iPad should have had a front facing camera, and it would be nice if they built the USB/SD camera connect kit into the device as well. But it is offered, and you can copy RAW/JPEG files directly off a camera to store/view/edit. Handwriting recognition is supported by 3rp party apps, but I would like to see it built into the OS as well. Even though I’d never use it, since I type 3-4x faster than I write, and is usually terrible.
I suppose wait until OS 4.0 is announced on Thursday, but at least it appears multitasking is guaranteed this time.
That all sounds great…but it sounds like it is just a netbook replacement. Why would I want to replace my $250 netbook for a $550 tablet? It has the same processor as a netbook, the same OS as a netbook, same installable programs as a netbook, etc…

Android based tablets exist
Google will likely attack with Chrome OS, not Android. IMO android will suffer the same way the ipad is going to suffer. It is the same thing as a phone, just bigger.
Like I said this is more of a toy than a replacement for laptops/netbooks, especially the iPad. Mainly so, because the iPad doesn’t have Office on it, which is fine unless the person you are sending docs, spreadsheets, presentations does have it.
I think these two tablets, present information in a better display (as in it’s more appealing) than netbooks. I still prefer physical keyboards rather than touch anyday of the week, but this seems to be better for presenting, if that makes sense.
it seems like it would be more than annoying to try and make posts and/or type anything on a tablet with an all touch screen keyboard. i hate texting on touch screen let alone typing… you wouldnt be able to rest your fingers on the keys because they would be typing… this is why a physical keyboard is necessary imo
Every phone I’ve had since my Nokia 3600 in 2003 has supported Office out of the box, other than the iPhone I had for a month.
Really Apple? You can’t match the functionality of this?
