give me your 2 cents...

As of now im in talks with potential buyers for both the 996 and the c10.
So I should prob figure out what my next move will be.
that’s i guess the point of this thread…what do you think the best move would be for a daily driver car in SoCal?

I think I have it narrowed down between 3 potential candidates but im always welcome to hear other suggestions…
(ib4 corvette/mk6 GTi)

my main parameters are:

has to have working A/C
has to be capable of putting another 60-80k miles
manual trans is a must
has to be under $20k
has to be capable of mid 20mpg highway

First:
E46 M3

this is my old E46 so I know what im getting into per say…

Pros:
highest hp (333)
rwd
6 speed manual trans
best looking choice
decent resale
decent interior
most “fun” all around vehicle

Cons:
worst fuel milage
subframe and vanos issues
most expensive choice to repair
most expensive to insure

Second:
E36 M3

This is my old E36 so I also kinda know the quirks of this one too…
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g7/WRCWRX/BMW/4910452970_bcec087792_z.jpg

Pros:
cheapest to purchase
cheapest to fix
cheapest to insure
classic exterior
vader seats
s52 is pretty reliable
second highest hp (240)

Cons:
TERRIBLE dash/gauge styling
only a 5spd (vs 6spd)
oldest choice

Third:
MK6 Golf TDi

Ill add that Ive owned quite a few VW’s before including diesels and enjoyed them for the most part. I haven’t owned one of these commonrail diesels before but the mk6 chassis looks nice and comfortable. However, almost immediately after purchase I would buy a tune from either Malone or APR to make it a bit more enjoyable

http://images.gtcarlot.com/gtgallery/68901264-640.jpg

Pros:
Best MPG (45-50)
TORQUEEEEE (170hp/300ftlbs after APR tune)
newest vehicle
6spd
decent interior
ok resale

Cons:
boring
FWD
its a Volkswagen so its bound to break…often

VW R32
E39 M50
850i
Z3 M roadster
boxster S
951

srt10 ram?

Do what I SHOULD have done and get an AWD GOlf R.

If we are sticking to the list, e36 is my preference. 2nd e46. 3rd TDI.

you of all people should know that i don’t need AWD here…all its doing is hurting MPG.

E92 335i?

Josh, I need some reliability.
I don’t want to deal with replacing HPFP and turbos.

I said the same thing and i’m absolutely regretting it. Disregard option 3 entirely if I were you… TDI be damned its going to be soooo boring and knowing you, you’ll move on from it pretty quickly.

LOL not a chance

people want way too much for r32’s
e39 with the straight 6 isn’t a bad idea.
no thanks for the 8 series
the only z3 style chassis I would drive is an m coupe and those are $20+K
no boxster or 951.

Integra Type-R. Reliable, under $10k & fuel efficient.

honestly the type R and s2k crossed my mind but either would be stolen within 6 months

With nothing to close around it, yep… sad but true.

E36 M3 vs. Slowest E90 stateside

E36 M3
14.6 sec 1/4 @ 95 mph
0 - 130 mph 33.2
top speed 140 mph
.84g skidpad
70 - 0 167 feet

Slowest E90 stateside.
14.7 sec 1/4 @ 94 mph
0 - 130 mph 33.2
top speed 147 mph
.87g skidpad
70 - 0 161 feet

Go with the E46.

Cayman?

GTO / CTS-V / G8… prices of these fluctuate between 10k-20k depending on mileage. You can also find the newer 5.0 mustangs in the 18-20k range. They all meet your main parameters as well.

is300?

the drivetrain is cool but the rest of these cars are pitiful IMO. I would rather look at a 20 year old BMW dash/gauge cluster than any of these cars.

not a huge fan of Japanese vehicles but the thought of a TL type S or TSX type S has crossed my mind too…

nope.

+1 for e46m3, but I’m sure you already know that.

Why not just a 2010ish 330/328? They can be had for cheap and don’t have the issues the turbo cars do.

The question is do you really want to drive a 20 year old M3 on a daily basis? Meh.
