give me your 2 cents...

is that spam approval ?

That is how I’m seeing this thread.

Of the original 3 I would go 1-E46 M3 2-MKVI Golf TDI 3-E36 M3.

I really like the idea of that Z4-M Roadster though…

I think your already sold on another Bimmer, I cant hate. but still Love the TDI so a new/newer golf with some GTI options, and nice set of coils and wheels. it will go as fast as you need and require fuel half as often.

But being this is a NYspeed and not NYmpg I think your going to be talked into a BMW. so go for it. Ive been driving a customer E66 760LI and really love the drive. BMW really knows how to make a drivers car. now all i need to do is figure out this random stalling issue lol

128i with sport package is basically a more recent e36 m3.

deposit received on the 996

:frowning:

although the e36 and e46 are good cars - they’re getting really really old and you have already had them - i’d personally be more into doing something i haven’t done before.
I like josh’s suggestion, or even the 5 - the majority of those cars have had hpfp replaced, it can be looked up too. my 535 is super reliable…it might be a little extra work to make sure, but you can probably find one that has had service done right, all that nonsense taken care of, have a quick car that has an interior much better than the older versions of it.

I’ve had mine for over a year now and i can’t think of a better (reasonably priced) car (must have sport package) that checks off all the boxes for me like this does
(ie, looks, power, comfort/interior, technology, 6sp, handling, etc)

Besides the turbos, coil packs, wastegates, electric water pump, injectors, and hpfp those n54/55s are very reliable.

have you considered a BRZ?

Plenty of horse power  :tspry:

maybe you already covered it but why are you limiting yourself to a sub-$20k car?

seems like an LCI E9X M3 would be right up your alley… get to enjoy a Euro V8 before they become extinct and get your red/black thing on. i tried like hell to get red interior on a black M3 but could not find one for months… you wont have that problem in cali. Decent E92’s from 2009+ are into the mid to low $30k range right now and should hang there for a while. other than rod bearings (which are not really an issue on the newer models) there are not any common failures on them.

the performance aspect of them is certainly cool. but the horror stories scare me. yeah you say the example you have is great and trouble free but i read about cars with HPFP’s being replaced multiple times, injectors constantly failing, and even turbos replaced several times.

you forgot about the carbon buildup debacle

no i havent because i dont want one lol.

im trying to limit it to sub $20k because ideally id like to rack up like 80k miles on this thing then not take too much of a hit afterwards. i think 20k and under has decent options for a semi-reliable / semi-functional weekend car.

and as far as the m3 is concerned the maintenance costs over almost 100k miles & fuel milage deter me just like it does in an e39 m5.
plus (and i shit you not) @LZ has made me spend far too much time looking into c6 zo6’s

If you use an E36 M3 as a baseline it’s not that slow, it’s just that the baseline has become relatively slow.

BRZ
14.9 sec 1/4 @ 95 mph
60 - 100 mph 10.1 sec
100 - 130 mph 20.6 sec
60 - 130 mph 30.7 sec
0 - 130 mph 37.0 sec
top speed 139 mph
.91g skidpad
70 - 0 165 feet

In terms of SPEED they are all kinda equal, unless you are going 130 mph. Personality the E36 M3 wins, daily driver practicality a NA E9x wins, BRZ is ummm, light. Of the three the E46 M3 is the best.

I love my mk6 gti as a daily.

An e46 is a great car. I’d spend a little more to get that over the e36 all day, even though they are still super fun to drive.

I really like the M-sport 128i. Not fast, same speed as an e36 M3 with more modern interior and looks (still quirky though) but more personality than a 325i.

The more I think about this the more I think you should just sell the truck and keep the p-car. For the amount of miles driven I don’t see you losing here… plus the 996’s are really gaining traction lately. (from the guy who knows oh-so-little about the p-car world)

:2cents:

Anything else will be a compromise, and knowing you… it won’t be a long term deal…

It’s actually the opposite with the 996’s as of late if you look closely.

hmmm.

the price/non modded/maintenance paperwork makes this tempting

disregard. that doesn’t have a clean title.

Are you willing to travel for something or get it shipped?

im willing to travel for something that’s worth it. that car doesn’t strike me as being worth the trouble.
