:bloated: I probably wouldn’t be posting this today if it wasn’t such an eventful day. Today was my first auto-x. I was in the first group, 2nd to last, and right behind me was a 2001 BMW 330ci.
Anyways, we are on our 2nd to final run of the first session and as I am finishing the course I turn to see everything getting shut down and the bwm behind me stopped in an awkward position.
Ran down to take a look and it hit one of the lightpoles. One of the corners was very badly dammaged (it had to be towed out of there).
I will do my best to get some pictures of it as I know there were plenty taken (even possibly some video). The weirdest thing is this has never happened before and apparently the guy has been driving for a while. Kind sucks to see that happen.
Anyways, I figured I would see if anyone from on here was at the event today.
Okay, at first I was like OMGWTFKGB, but after looking closely I agree with davids. Look carefully at the picture, it’s decieving.
There is a pointer cone for the cone at the right of the lightpost, which is actually between our point of view and the lightpost. Behind the passengers head/seat you can see another cone which is obviously on our side of the lightpost as well. Since you can’t see the point where the lightpost meets the ground, it at first looks like it’s part of the gate of gones the driver is going through, but it’s not.
Use Picture 1 and 2 as a reference for that gate.
Oh and in picture 2 you can see the bmw, which crashed, lined up behind me.
I also checked with the event organizer and the owner has requested to keep all pictures/video of it off the internet. I think people who were that are respecting that as I have not see any pictures of it online.
The pole that was hit is in the 2nd to last picture. It is the pole closest to the left of the lude. It’s a straight shot from the previous gate which is where the picture is being taken from. Which had a lot of us confused about how he actually hit it.
Ok lets get this straight. The pole that was hit was way off the driving lane as you are pushing away from the inside of the cone to setup for the 180° at the end…
In picture 11 he was out of control. He kept sliding and sliding trying to catch the car and save the run, and when he felt that he could not save it he got out of the gas and hit the brakes… Mistake that transfered all the weight up front and now he regained front end grip and the car snapped “arround” on him comming to rest aginst the pole. He “slid” for 130ft. There are not many places that you slide that far and not hit anything…
I never saw the pole when i was on course and wile i was helping another new driver.
I did not make any runs before the accident and i made all my runs after the accident and had no problems. Neither did the other 200+ runs that were made after the accident.

You can see my run in the following vid.
