Sorry, I forgot that they’re losing money in spite of a history of making good decisions on everything from labor negotiations to product line-up.

TBSS’s are dirt cheap lol. I wouldnt buy shit new now, you can cut the price in half after a year or so.
I’m not saying that they haven’t made bad decisions, becasue they have. And our Unions seem to be the suck and would rather see GM fail and shut down instead of take a hit.
I’d say 85% of the people on this site are import people. No clue what Nelstoys is since he’s pro-GM one day and then a hater the next.
I have owned both. I own 2 new Chevys now (09 Malibu and or TrailBlazer) and I have minimal issues with them. I have owned a new one every 3 years and I can’t say that any of them were complete shit like most people that never owned a new one say on here.
I never said what they do is good business practice, I was just pointing out that people, including you never like to look at the whole picture. Buying a new gm is stupid because they don’t have good resale value, but buying an r32 is stupid because they hold their value well compared to their competition. Seems like you have a valid argument :roflpicard:
:word:
I have owned 3 GM products myself; my family has owned well over 20 since i’ve been around. Out of all of these, I’ve seen two examples of a piece of crap like described: an '89 chevy blazer that had persistent steering issues and a '98 grand am. The grand am shouldn’t even count because we bought it for 4500, my sister drove it from age 16 to 18, then sold it in one day for 4000. But enough of the fucking hate already. We get it, you don’t like them. Buy something else and STFU. If I ranted about why I hate Toyota and Honda as much as you guys do the other way around, I’d self-ban. My solution to the depreciation thing is to lease. Then I know the next 3 years of depreciation the day I get the car.
I’m not going to bring the R32 argument in here, but I acknowledged that and justified my position otherwise.
camarojoe, there are plenty of GMs I’d own, like a Corvette Z-06 or ZR-1 or Cobalt SS, or Pontiac G8 GXP or Solstice GXP etc. Just not over the European or Asian competitors that can be had at the same price in a normal market. Since we’re not in a normal market, I’d definitely consider a Cobalt SS at invoice over a Mazdaspeed3 at sticker.
they need to consolidate in a hurry. bankruptcy and come back as a smaller company please.
Their executives for some reason think that they are too good to go into bankruptcy. This is my biggest problem with GM at the present; it’s the solution to their problems, yet instead they’d rather limp along like this, soaking up taxpayer money along the way.
Don’t they have to pay it back?
They did offer a good package of consolidation for the company as a whole, but that doesn’t happen overnight.
I have owned 2 GM products in my life…
1 Ford
1 BMW
1 Chrysler (jeep)
1 honda
2000 TA - Trans broke because of the abuse it took (it was orig in a 700+ hp turbo car and then i launch at 6,000 rpm’s with it) other than that, no problems at all…at 500+ rwhp …and according to NYspeed the F body is the worst car evarrrrrrrrr
1994 Chevy 2500- never had a problem with this either. 120k miles Motor, tranny, rear end, all fine, all power windows, locks, radio, everything worked when i sold this in fall 2007. the body had some rot, but what do you expect for a 13 y/o pickup in buffalo?
2002 Ford Mustang GT - AC compressor crapped out, window motor crapped out, Mach 460 sometimes didnt like to eject CD’s so i had to keep a little screwdriver handy to fish them out. Valve cover gasket blew at 31k and oiled everything down nicely. Sold this in the fall of 07 with 35k miles.
2000 Honda Accord - this car served me well, only complaint after 150k miles the fuel lines went, and 30k later the brake lines also went… all rotted. The front hood started to rot off, although i heard there was a recall on it which was never taken advantage of. The sunroof leaked, but nothing some tile calk didnt fix.
1997 328i Bimmer- This was my frist car (late 2003 i got it) , i didnt have it long. All the electrical stuff started to go, radio crapped out. passenger window wouldnt work.
2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee (current DD) Has 160k miles, window motor went at about 40k miles, lifter started ticking at prob 80k, rear main started to leak a bit maybe a month or so ago.
My point being is that just about every car is going to have problems. I think GM is what you make of it. They offer some really nice products. If you buy a cobalt though, your getting a little shit econo box. On the other hand, if your buying a Z06 or now the ZR1 , you have something that can measure up with cars that probably none of us will ever afford. The G8 is a very cool car, my dad who has owned BMW’s since i was little, is contemplating the switch from his 5 series. The Lsx F cars are the performance bargin of this decade. The GTO is a great car, ask the people on here who drive them.
I will now end my rant, I am not defending GM’s business practices, they are retards. I am just pointing out that the company offeres some great products.
Yep they think they are “too good”.
Really?
More like they are afraid if they go into a restructuring bankruptcy that they will never come out of it. For 2 reasons:
So to them chapter 11 = chapter 7
If they could put together a pre-planned restructuring bankruptcy that would be perfect but as you have seen with recent bond holder and union negotiations that is not going to easily happen.
But yep your right, they just think they are “too good”.
Its easy… HYPOTHETICAL NUMBERS AHEAD:
Lets say that you’re paying 30,000 employees. They all get $60/hr (payroll + benefits paid), and you keep two 8 hour production shifts per day. 28,800,000
Lets say you have 20 offices, which cost 100,000 per day to keep open 16 hours a day (including land pmts, utilities) 2,000,000
Lets say that the you put out 300 widgets, per office, per day. You COST of MATERIALS for these widgets is 20,000. 120,000,000
So you’re spending 150,800,000 per day to produce 6000 widgets per day.
Commone sense says that you need to sell each widget you made today to pay for costs, and you would like some profit too. So, 150M / 6000 = 25,000 sale price per widget - TO BREAK EVEN.
Now add in the marketing for your widgets, the R&D program for your newer widgets, and the legacy costs of paying 70 years worth of retirees each month/day.
Your minimum widget price just went up, alot. And you’re still not looking at a profit.
Oh, and BTW - you’re only able to sell 3000 widgets per day.
Get where this is going…
You have NO idea how CH11 works, do you?
This isn’t my car, it’s for my girlfriend. She did her homework, test drove a bunch of other cars (imports and domestics), and came back to GM.
$21,215 MSRP - all the rebates - GM points = $14,215 + taxes = $17,115 for a brand new car. Not bad if you ask me. Granted it will depreciate as all cars do, but with $7,000 knocked right of the MSRP it’s hard to pass up a new car with 5 years/100,000 miles of warranty.
^ what kind of car was it?
That should buff right out.
Wow. 17k for ANY new car with a 5yr/100k mile warranty is a fucking deal.
You can’t get a kia for that price even…
G6. She just got done with a lease on one and liked it enough to buy another one. Mind you her main concern with a car is getting back and forth to work…zero interest in performance whatsoever. Granted, this isn’t the most amazing car in the world, but it fits her needs and she’s happy with it.
Word.
And to add to this, my wife got the brand new Malibu. The car is plain an simple great. It’s not a performance car by any means, but has great build, ride, fit and finish, etc. And if it got the Motor Trend Car of the Year, then it by any means isn’t a shit car as import humpers can try to make it out to be.
Your funny, i love when u open the doors of your trailblazer and it sqeeks so loud the dog barks lol. My newest toy my 94 camry i dont think ever had the doors oiled and they dont make a sound. And the best part is my dash is actualy soft face whatever it ism your is hard plastic. gata love plastic. And hey when people say its only a malibu you can say yea well it has the exact same steering wheels as any new corvette biatch!
