$59,000 PER SECOND assuming 3 shifts per day 7 seven days a week.
How much of that $31 billion is legacy costs?

Squeaky door can be greased and done with. Not a huge concern to me.
Tommy barks at people, not my car door
The TB has a mix of hard and soft plastic. It’s treated me well, I can’t complain about anything so far for what I have put it through.
not bad at all.
My english is bad, but I couldn’t get through that post. I was forcing myself to read it, but then I read that the new malibu and corvette came with multiple steering wheels. Are they like the drivers ed cars?
Did you also call a Camry a toy? Does it have a 2Jz in it or something?
EDIT: forgot the note she car at INVOICE, not MSRP - all the rebates- GM points…so out the door for a hair over $16k
So much domestic hate!
Pay it back with what money? They are already losing millions a day.
why do you hate honda? I’m just curious, you can pm me if you don’t want to post and start ish
And the amount of money they are borrowing is minimal compared to the banks. At least GM is making cars with some of the money.
I still don’t understand the accountability that GM is supposed to show, but the banks are just handed the money. And much more of it too.
I find these arguements really interesting because most of the parts on a car whether it be ford, chevy, honda, toyota all come from the same suppliers (denso, delphi, valeo, etc) it is just how and where the parts are put together that make the car/truck.
When I worked at valeo wiper systems in Rochester we were testing GM, Ford, hyundai, toyota parts all coming from the same plant! Eventhough I am a Chevy guy I look upon all the imports, germans, domestic the same because of this. If it is a shitty engineered car it is going to be shitty no matter what brand it is.
THESE THREADS ALL END UP THE SAME PAST PAGE ONE!!!

^ Yea, and that obviously helps.
Well, its true! and im sure it doesn’t hurt.
I have a thousand of opinions I can contribute but im not gonna because it would be the third or fourth time I would be posting them! The same goes for everyone in here.
I like starting these threads. I have no problem posting bad news for GM or any other company for that matter. Obliviously something is not working and there is not easy fix to it either. Granted Beck has all the solutions for GM’s problems.
We will see what people have to say at the end of March if Toyota post the loss it is predicting.
Amen to that… I feel that people who are reading these threads are forgetting this excellent point!
man, we are technically forced to buy a GM car (with the bailout money).
shit happens when you actually DD a car all the time. I work on imports all day long so i can write a whole list of crap on those if you want. As stated EVERY make has it’s issues. Most people, like you, simply feel the need to point out any and everything because it makes you feel good. Man made products will break and will fail. Simply because nothing is perfect. The sooner you can realize that nothing is perfect the easier life gets.
You guys gripe on interior quality, but going up to the Toronto auto show, sitting in all the makes and models (well except kia, I skipped them) GM interiors are not that bad, especially when you compare apples and apples.
Suburu seemed to be king of hard plastic and such even the WRX STI, but the areas you touch on a daily basis were soft That’s really all that matters, I don’t “get off” rubbing my dash board.
Toyota carpets in one of the SUVs I was in was total garbage, stuff was shredding or balling up or something just from people getting in and out and touching the storage area. When you buy cheaply priced car from them, you get cheap crap in them. Things don’t break when…they aren’t there too break! Lexus of course was Lexus.
Ford, really only sat in the Lincoln, but I must say, leather was very nice, wood trim seemed fake but they might have put one heck of thick finish on it. Really had no complaints. Go Ford and no bailout!
GM, was the only auto maker advertising sales and how much you could get off of a vehicle. Silverado, base model, the center console thing was broke, or they removed the button on purpose, same deal as the suburu, stuff you touch was soft…well in this case softish, but being a stripped down work truck soft is bad really., Fully loaded models things improved with softer materials here and there, some hard stuff on the doors. Cadillac’s were very nice and I think on par with the Lexus feel. Camaro was awesome, the view from the drivers seat, nicely tucked in there, felt solid in there.
Chrysler seemed all in all good too, comfortable seats in the chargers.
BMW good, 1 series you could tell was the budget buy.
All auto manufacturers seem to be getting a bit ridiculous with engine covers, I wonder how much it costs to put that on there? GM should cut that in all but Cadillac since luxury owners like the feeling of a hermetically sealed engine bay :P.
My boss for some reason likes to compare BMW’s to Impalas, hurts my head a bit.
Many a time did I have sticker shock at the autoshow from all angles, all dealers, some of this stuff has you shaking your head at why it costs 30k, but it would seem the new 30k was the old 20K.
Where does a CTS start again? G8? Hmm bargains at GM (even before all the incentives, supply and demand, GM cars are/were cheap because of simply how many there are, as the tide shifts and the are downsized company Toyota might be the next one with resale in the shitter), especially for used car buyers…I really have to wonder if this current mess we’re in is because of how quickly cars were getting replaced. Whats the stat on how long people keep a car? Everyone wants new new new, now they can’t afford it and our economy seemed to based on throw away the old, build something new, now people like what they have and can’t afford to have something better.
ramble ramble ramble, thats what this topic is a collection of.
Actually, other than the general negative sentiment towards the quality of the vehicles one of the primary reasons for the massive depreciation is because of the massive amounts of fleet and institutional buyers of GM products.
Rental fleets, corporate fleet, leasing fleets, commercial fleets have always been dominated by american cars… when these cars are a couple yeras old they get fed back into the market via auctions, used car lots etc. etc. and they drive the market price down because they are so plentiful. basic supply and demand.
There have never been a significant amount of foreign vehicles in North American fleets, this is changing now and is reflected in the higher rates of depreciation for corolla’s, maxima’s, etc.
BMW owns like 80%+ of their cars and therefore monopolizes the secondary market for them, artificially maintaining the resale value of their cars.
Partially true.
GM will take loss carry forwards or any other losses that could be timed in future periods and realise them in 2008 and 2009 instead.
This will artificially show better performance in the following periods which will be attributed to better management (earning the bail-out) even though it is simply accounting tricks.
Furthermore, appearing to be worse off now gives them better negotiating leverage with the unions and tier one suppliers.
95% of this recession is marketing and you’re all falling for it.
I also realise that these bits of knowledge are lost on this thread… i wasted my time by posting this.
