Actually, other than the general negative sentiment towards the quality of the vehicles one of the primary reasons for the massive depreciation is because of the massive amounts of fleet and institutional buyers of GM products.

Rental fleets, corporate fleet, leasing fleets, commercial fleets have always been dominated by american cars… when these cars are a couple yeras old they get fed back into the market via auctions, used car lots etc. etc. and they drive the market price down because they are so plentiful. basic supply and demand.

There have never been a significant amount of foreign vehicles in North American fleets, this is changing now and is reflected in the higher rates of depreciation for corolla’s, maxima’s, etc.

95% of this recession is marketing and you’re all falling for it.

I also realise that these bits of knowledge are lost on this thread… i wasted my time by posting this.

GMAC awarded CEO de Molina $11.6 million in 2008
Package included $2.3 million in use of corporate jet

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Auto financier GMAC LLC, the recipient of a $6 billion federal bailout in December, today said CEO Alvaro de Molina was awarded $11.62 million of compensation in 2008 – which doubled his total compensation from 2007.
De Molina was awarded a $1.2 million salary, $5.81 million of stock awards and $4.8 million of other compensation, offset by option awards of negative $194,000, reflecting the application of an accounting standard.

GMAC said de Molina’s compensation was $4.93 million in 2007. He became CEO on Sept. 5 of that year.

I saw that today after I sent an e-mail to a bunch of executives. It is crazy to be communicating with people on that level and they are asking you for info. I guess it is hard to explain but it is an intense feeling. Luckily most of our executives are easy to talk to.

If the ride in the Cobalts didn’t suck so much, my girlfriend might be driving one right now. As far as interior quality. I liked the interior on the Cobalt better than that of other base Scions and Toyotas that we looked at. But the ride was spongy as hell. Which I understand can be fixed. The ride in even the Yaris was WAY better. Didn’t feel detached from the road like in the Cobalt.

So they got lots of points. If it weren’t for the ride it would have been on the top of our possibilities. But this was voided out when we made the smart decision of not owing on a car while she is going for her PHD. So we are looking at super used cars to get her though school first. Then we can get a graduation present more in the range of a fully loaded sport compact (I’d imagine the ride in the Cobalt SS would HAVE to be better).
