Going into isolation, Need some ideas!

I will be part of a medical study which will involve me being stuck in a hospital room for 12 straight days not being able to leave or have visitors.

SO I was originally going to ask what movies you guys would suggest as “must sees” but I figure I’ll take any ideas you guys have.

You have 12 days of doing nothing, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?!

beat your meat

Read a bunch of books!

Details on the study?

What would you recommend?

I will be given an influenza (bird flu) vaccine at about half the dosage known to work in humans to prevent it. They will examine my anti-body levels every day for the 12 days to see if this half dose ammount would provide sufficent protection from the flu in case a pandemic breaks out. As any vaccine carrys a “live” form of the virus, they need to keep us all isolated for fear we begin shedding the virus.

bring a watch
you will go insane if you do not know day or night.

Read Walden. Then after you get out you can move into the woods!

sit down and shut up is such a good book

I am reading Pygmy right now and it is dope.

If you like Science and Superheroes read The Physics of Superheroes!

So the isolation isn’t part of the study? Then definitely get a laptop. Stay connected. That will help.

My wife gave me an ereader for graduation and surprisingly I love it. If you like to read get one and load it with books. Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged are both really long and really really good. Eckhert Toll’s The Power of Now would be a good one to read when you’re stuck in isolation for a long time. Richard Preston’s Hot Zone would be neat to read while being part of a disease study. If you’re into American History then His Excellency is a really interesting biography of George Washington. Umm, otherwise check out a thread titled “Read any good books lately?” for more reading ideas.

EDIT: For ereaders get the Barnes & Noble Nook and a buffalo library card. The library has a big ebook collection that you can access through their website. The Nook is better than the Kindle because it reads all formats so you can download stuff for free. Amazon’s only works at Amazon.

This.

this sounds interesting. i hope youre getting compensated heavily, i wouldnt do it for less than a few $k

Haha there is def some $ being thrown around. You get paid well as you need to take off work for it obviously, but it works out great if you’re fresh outta college. the biggest problem is fighting the bordem

Xbox and laptop?

Blink by Malcolm Gladwell

I’m trying to put a number on how much you would have to pay me to do this for 12 days. It would be a pretty big number.

Bring books, laptop and video games. The books will help pass the time but 12 straight days of reading you’d probably go nuts. You need some other things to pass the time. Other than that I’d probably just sleep a lot.

Enough books, what about movies? I know we have the movie thread but I’m looking for your ALL time favorite movies. Suggestions? I plan on renting the library out lol

Chatroulette for 12 days.

Lol do a study of how many weird people you come across using chatroutlette for 8 hours a day for 12 straight days. We may be onto something…

fixed

Rent the whole series of “spartacus”
