My mom bought a new, inexpensive (slow) laptop that came with vista, and the thing can barely run just the vista. I tried to delete all the extra crap that was installed on it, but regardless when she installed McAfee on it, it got so slow it was nearly useless.
Any suggestions for a antivirus program thats not going to make this thing shit the bed?
I also recommend you find out what type of memory it uses, and check slickdeals.net to get a memory upgrade…
did she get a laptop with just 512MB RAM?

AVG is a great antivirus that uses little system resources. +1

if its vista and has 512 in its ddr2 and most likely 4200 or 5300.

I’m pretty sure it only has 512, it was Toshiba’s least expensive one at ~$700. She really only uses it for the internet and iTunes.
look at the my computer properties and it will tell you how much it has
$700 should be 1GB… but even that is low for vista
