good cheap tow vehicles?

hey anyone know anythign about trucks?

im looking to pick up something cheap to tow my car to the track this year…

looking at chevy suburbans so far.

what else is cheap and sweet?

i wouldnt go suburbans youll pay gas out the ass they are powerfull and strong but they do cost alot at the pumps0 i used my dads dakota short box 4door 1/2tonne it was ok but wasnt really great for towing due to its lack of hieght the trailer almost hit the ground but a 4x4 dakota v6 has a stronger suspension and is ok on gas they dont have alot of balls but they have enough to tow a 240 with ease

i dont even think you can legally tow a car with a dakota. well i guess it depends on what type of trailer you are using a flat bed might be to heavy with the weight of the car for a small truck, and you may use more gas towing with a smaller truck that a full size because the smaller motor has to work twice as hard.
go with somthing heavy it keeps the trailer more manageable at highway speeds
i used to have a 2wd f150 towed fine but now i have a f150 4x4 and find the extra weight helps keep the trailer from tossing the truck around
just my .02

i used a dolly or car dolly (lie uhaul) its legal but again 2wd sit lower so its not a nice to tow with and yes a v8 is probably better if you are going to tow often

i have a 2007 2wd v6 dakota and i towed my 70 dart swinger back from newyork with it, it was close to it’s limit but really had no issue(car float+ car was about 4800lbs)

nissan pathfinder… done
jeep grand cherokee

just bought my self a 97 2wd ford f150 with the 4.6l v8 (basically same as mustang)
i tow a large enclosed trailer and it feels like i’m towing nothing. doesn’t even notice the trailor back there. and when i take off overdrive i’m always right where the power is.
it was fairly inexpensive.

but remember if your buying a truck your not buying it for gas mileage. i get around 500 to a tank and it cost be 100 to fill from empty

do you guys know any good forums for towing lol

That wouldn’t be possible with how his car is set up.

Are you going with an open trailer or enclosed? If it’s enclosed you will need some good tow power.

If you’ve got an open trailer, just pick up a Chevy with an 8 in it and your good to go… plus they are cheap compared to most trucks.

old chevys with v8s are good not to muention most come with 4wd and i hate to say it but the ford f150 actually do really well at towing cars ive towed a 240 on a f150 once to 2wd v6 worked well also

I towed my civic on a uhaul flatbed last year with a 2dr 4x4 explorer sport 4L v6 and it was a white knuckle experience, no balls and the suspension was shit. I swapped out the mono leaf suspension in the rear for 4 leaf springs from the 4dr explorer that I’ll try out this year. I work for abrams now and all of our trucks are 6L GM’s and Chevs HD’s they all run fine and some have about 500,000km.

I really would recommend a v8 truck GM or Chev and not a light truck and if you do go with a Ford, get a diesel their gas engines are shit. I’ll be getting rid of my Ford at the first opportunity and getting a v8 truck

My work van is a Chev express 3500 and I tow 5k - 8k lbs SkyJacks all the time. It pulls great, no problems at all. It’s the 4.8l v8.

I would also highly recommend a trailer with electric brakes… which means you’ll need a break controller in the truck.

Check out auctions. There are probably a few good deals to be found with some companies closing their doors. Think of all the parts you could haul (and lock-up) in a full size van!!

Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L, the trannys and engines are indestructable… my dads has 441xxx km on it and it still pulls like its from the factory… amazing vehicles and he gets good gas milage, plus its 4X4 so you cna off road it too if you want

a anything with a v8 should be fine. a v8 dakota should pull your car(2500lbs?) and trailer(1500lbs?) no problem. the only problem with light duty trucks is there soft suspension. a couple of leafs springs added to the rear solves this problem. hope this helps.

oh, and a f350 deisel will pull your shit no problem, but it is probably out of your price range.

peace
peace

i rented u-haul trailer with electric brakes just plug in and they work but again if you pull a trailer often your better to buy one

thats not electric brakes
that for when the trailer flys off it locks the tires so it doesnt kill anyone

you need a brake ctrl to use electric brakes

the engine that is in my truck is outta mustangs. its a pretty reliable and proven engine. i agree though that ford explorers are shit.
honestly i tow a massive enclosed trailor and i have never once felt under powered or not in control.
as far as i am concerted a truck is a truck and 90’s chevs are fucking ugly.
i was a ford hater now turned into a ford owner.

i agree i used 2 love chevy trucks but the last 97 ford f150 i owned had 360000k on it and it had no problems so when i sold it i bought a 2000 f150 4X4 have had it for a year no problems i even use it to plow my driveway in the winter.
ford makes good trucks
its there cars that suck
