Process?

Didn’t really look that bad to begin, just dirty, or maybe those pics didn’t show the swirls before.

Yea, the pics dont show the swirls well cause of the dirty factor, but trust me it was in desperate need.

Thanks and PM sent

Just wash correctly. You won’t see many swirls, if any.

edit: oh, i see my post would have made a great SOP coming out of a corporate office. yikes.

Use NXT wash, or any good wash. Use a lambswool mitt, or a microfiber mit (I like the chenille style).

Wash clean–>dirty. This is generally roof, horizontal panels, vertical panels. you may want to keep one mit for the lower panels and bumpers (which should be washed last).

Do not dry DO NOT DRY WITH POLYESTER. Microfiber or cotton. I like waffle weave microfiber.

Probably a good idea to use a spray wax if waxing after washing isn’t on the agenda. Mothers FX spraywax (Pep Boys, KS auto), Duragloss Aquawax (Carquest). It may add 10 minutes, but the extra layer of new wax will help curtail marring/swirl marks.

When you wash, make sure to give a reallly good rinse first, get all the panel seams really well and the lower half really well. I wouldnt use an MF mit to wash either. With microfiber being so good at picking up stuff, theres a chance the MF mitt might hold on to something and pull it across the paint.

Use really gentle pressure and on horizontal panels wash the way the wind travels, on vertical panels wash in vertical lines just the way water would run down them.

I personally wouldnt even dry with the Chinese cotton that can still swirl your paint just from being of piss poor quality.

And defintely try DG aquawax, it only would take 2 minutes extra. I buy it by the gallon. Its just as easy as drying itself. In fact it makes it easier by breaking the tension on the water making it easier to dry believe it or not. Just give a couple sprays per panel then dry the car normally. Its awesome and makes the paint really slick in turn making it easier to clean like Goobtoob mentioned.

I have NOT had marring happen with an MF mitt, and I think it is just an Autopia Groupthink Myth. Maybe I’m just careful. I use a separate mitt for the dirtiest panels, and I keep my paint well waxed (usually).

Not sure why you always refer back to autopia when I try to give advice. I didn’t say or imply you got or would get marring, just simply stating how it could make sense, so he might see how and could make his own decisions.

I just wanted to give him another way to think of it. Some people like a clean car, whereas people like me and what sounds like you too, will go at great lengths to insure nothing compromises a near perfect or perfect finish…

just trying to helpful

washing isnt a problem for me, i think drying is a major kink in my process. i use a california blade, then a microfiber towel to do it right now.

California blade
