GT25R turbo upgrade...?

Hey i was just wondering if anyone here is going to do this swap? GT25R. Or more ppl think that they are going to the T-28 S15 turbo upgrade. I just found a good deal on the GT25R. I wonder if its worth the upgrade?

It’s the same turbo as the GT25/40 i beleive. Maybe an R missing, but virtually the same, depending on the A/R on the thing. Comes in .64 and .80 i think, something like that.

Supposedly an awesome turbo, spools fast, in the 3700rpm range, and makes about 380whp. Bolts on to all of the stock components like manifold, o2 extension, and oil lines. But I have heard that you have to rotate one of the housings to clear a manifold running if you have an upgraded manifold.

This will probably be the turbo of my choice for an excellent street upgrade.

What’s considered a “good deal”?

get a s14 t28 turbo …cost effective and can handle alot of boost … around $500
GT25R is about $1000 and a s15 t28 is around $1000 as well

Just keep in mind if you want to be running anywhere near that turbo’s capacity, you’re going to need bigger injectors, a bigger MAF, bigger fuel pump, etc, etc. Not quite as simple as throwing on the new turbo.

S14 and the S15 turbo the same? I thought they were? If there not can you tell me the difference?

Yeah i’m well aware that i’m going to need upgrade everything that i have. But i heard its okay if you don’t up the boost that i can stay with stock everything for now. But it seems like a waste of time.

the GT25R is more along the same turbo as the HKs 2835 aaron. much bigger than the small 2540
.68 or .82 A/R exhaust sizes r avaliable… .82 is too big, .68 should see full boost at 3500-4000…i myself am thinking of this turbo as an upgrade… or the mitsubishi TD06-25g

and the difference between the s14 an s15 turbo, is that the s15 is a ball bearing center section, the s14 is not

Nah, i did a bunch of research man, they are the same turbo. I searched everywhere, and they all lead to being the same turbo… of course by this I mean, “basically” the same turbo.

“Garrett has thier shit all mixed up… lol… There is a GT25 that looks like a regular T25, but is ballbearing. Same as an Avenir. That one makes 250hp. Then, there’s the GT25R… or GT2540 as some people call it. It’s got the NS111 turbine, and a 48 Trim compressor with T04S cover.”

“Hmmm… Maybe we are getting confused. There are two different GT25R one is basically a ball bearing version of the stock T25 and then there is the older GT25R also known as a GT25/40R”

And there is lots of other evidence of that. Apparently there are a bunch of different versions of the GT25R, new ones and older ones, and they are all different and make different power. The one that I was referring to, which is also known as the GT25/40R will make around the 390whp mark with supporting mods, spools at the 3500rpm mark and good for like 20psi on the internal wastegate.

The GT2835 has A/R rating of .68 and .87, so it’s a different turbo, both of the GT25R and the GT25/40 have the same A/R which is some more evidence of its similarities. I’m not saying your wrong, I’m just saying thats what I’ve read time and time again. I think the 28/35 is bigger than both the 25R and the 25/40. Maybe I’m referring to the GT25/40R! not the GT25/40. These damn “r”'s all over the place.

20g or 25g is the way to go …td06

From what i have heard, the rb25det turbo’s make a decent upgrade for an sr20. Im not sure on the compatibility…i will have mine for sale this winter if anyone is interested.

.

they changed it, it use to be called a Gt25R now its gt25/40R… http://store.yahoo.com/cheapturbo/gargt64ar.html

It has a t3 frame so will work with an adapter. I believe only GTRs have t2 turbine sides and still aren’t a common or worthwhile swap on SRs. But yours could be if a person could get a plate welded cheap enough.

s14 or s15 turbos are the easiest t28 bolt ons and are pretty cheap and common …skyline t28 turbos are the next best but after that you will need adapters or custom manifolds to fit something different or bigger which to me is not worthwhile for a supposed simple modest power upgrade of 25-50hp

is 1400CAD expensive for turbo?

depends which one …for a s15 yes it is for a gt25r no

Sorry that price is for the GT25/40R $1400CAD plus the good ol tax. Local shop is selling that turbo for that price.

It’s alright.
