power

So I m looking to get like 30-40 more whp outta my motor for this season.

Right now i m running 10psi t25, apexi fc. 230whp ish

I m adding fuel pressure regulator, and 550cc injectors, and will retune.

So my questions …

How much power can I expect from a t25 at its max of 12psi, with 550cc injectors.

What would I need to do to install a t28 on my s13 sr20? Online sources are all contradicting. Getting stainless oil and coolant lines regardless. Does it just bolt up? the intake port tube on t28 looks to be at a 10 oclock postion versus stock t25 being 12 o clock.

And if i were to do t28, how much roughly can i expect from 14psi on t28?

On a t28, both the compressor inlet and outlet are clocked
Differently than a t25. there are 2 options.

  1. cut hot pipe and use 45 deg. coupler at compressor outlet. But you will lose the bead roll of the hot pipe. As for the stock rubber intake boot, my buddy just forced it into place and it worked fine.

  2. buy clocking plates and everything will line up nicely.

I’m guessing t25 220-230whp
T28 240-250whp

really 250whp with a t28 at 14 psi, thats so soft.

Maybe i should do a gt2871r…

if youre on a budget get a 2560r (s15 turbo) you can get them if you hunt around online for around 700 bucks. ( i got mine from the nismo shop) good for around 300hp.

I got 240whp out of a T28 with bolt ons @ 12 psi… No tune.

With a proper tune you should easily get 300 out of it @ ~18 PSI (yes, you should be able to push it that high assuming it’s not already blown)

As for T25’s, you should be able to hit 16 PSI reliably, again assuming your turbo isn’t already fucked. You can expect ~250-260 whp

You will be maxing out the efficiency on your t25 trying to get much more power than you have already. I had about 250whp before I blew my t28 then went on to better things. I used clocking plates which I have forsale if you decided to go that route.

s14 turbo is a waste of time. s15 turbo is nice. but 2871 is best if your keeping stock turbo setup.

the more power you try to make with a smaller turbo the hotter you make everything.

so with pfc, 550cc injectors, s15 turbo at 18psi you will make 280whp. add a 2871r at 16psi your at 330 whp with way more tq than s15 turbo

spend your money wisely

just to update …

I don’t want stupid high psi associated with the s15 turbo, nor does it make sense to spend the money on one, when a gt2871r is like 200-300 more.

Going gt2871r … YAY POWER!

buy a gtir t28, im running mine at about 13psi and im making 296whp.

as long as you won’t miss the response of you’re t25, then go gt2871r. that’s the reason why i’ll run an s15 t28 next time i build an sr. less lag is KEY on an sr. once you put a 2871r on it, you have NO power down low.

for the power and response you want, you should get a disco potato. GT2871r would be overkill if you’re looking to make under 300hp

what do you mean!!! .64 trim on a 2871r has lots of down low power it’s the exact same turbo as the hks gtrs turbo

I had a 2871r .64 on my setup. If I were to do it again I would do s15 turbo head gasket studs injectors and standalone, anything larger should be top mounted and twin scroll in my opinion, what turbo have you had? I had an intake manifold and cams which would not help with response and made me hate complicated sr builds.

i’m running stock s14 sr turbo i have been in a gt35r set up and no boost hits tell 4500rpm but from what every one tells me the 2871r 550cc injectors, elbow, manifold, aexpi power fc with map and boost at 20psi with a good tune is a perfect street car and even great at the track drag or time attack. with lots of low end torque and power building all the way to 7800rpm. tell me the issues you have had or having cause i my self am looking to do a full upgrade this spring and was debating either the gt28rs disco or the 2871r.

well just my .2, i would keep it simple, in my opinion the further you push an sr bottom mount the worse it gets, that gt35 setup would seem fun as a passenger but dailying a car with a stupid powerband sucks, that goes for drifting aswell, if you build the head and grip the car keeping it over 5 grand sure it would work fine.

i had a 400hp 2871r .86 setup with cams and all that jazz, which some if it didn’t help for low end torque. i made about 90wtq at 3000rpm, and made my 19psi at 4800rpm. which is garbage unless you’re ripping huge corners. it just becomes a slow ass n/a 2L 4 cylinder up until boost with a 2871r.

but we’re getting off topic. i still think and s15 turbo would be in his best interest for the small gain and response he wants.

but if you were running the .64 wouldn’t it be much better? and for buddy wouldn’t the gt2870rs disco be the way to go over the s15 turbo he will be getting much more low end torque and more of a power band for 200 more

on the .64 trim it should be 150wtq at 3000rpm big difference right there from 90 wtq

My point is still that with the small power upgrade he wants, an s15 turbo will be much better and much more responsive then a 2871r. All i’m saying.

The s15 turbo and 2860r are identical. The 2860rs has slip on 3in inlet and 2in outlet and will require more work to install. I am running 2871 .64 and it builds 15psi at 4200. Which isn’t too bad but is much more lag than stock or 2860. Like the other guys said, If I could do it again I would have gone with 2860r(s) to make 300 with a more useable powerband.
