\more like a deranged stang!!! ppl are going ot buy it anyways. they did it
for the 4th gens. with that annoying hump in the passenger floor. wait a minute
thats one of the reasons why the fbody is dead:dunno:

Don’t you drive a Ford Contour? Theirs nothing wrong with the way the grand prix looks

considering the GTP outdoes the SVT Contour in every single class…hell yah its a good car
I just got the motor trend mag today and they got the gto to a 13.6@102. i guess car and driver is a little slow. a mid 13 is a little more along the lines of a gto. my bad
And yes, the grand prix is ugly

The GTO was not meant to be an outright drag strip demon. It was designed to be a true Grand Touring car. For those of you who don’t know GTO = Gran Turismo Omologato. Roughly translated this meant a homologated grand touring car (homologation is the process in which a car must meet certain production numbers to be eligible for a given racing class). Hence the IRS (not a $ viable option, nor a proven tech. for GM, for the original GTO) and heavier weight due to more features. It will still do well at the strip, but that’s not its domain.
BTW… why must we always rehash the FWD vs. RWD argument? It’s really very simple… RWD is superior for most performance pursuits. Look at the most extreme forms of any sort of racing (F1 for road, Top Fuel for drag, etc.). The only place RWD is outshined is clearly in Rally where AWD cleans up. That being said, in a ‘street car’ FWD can be made to hold its own. Given the right setup it is drag-able (assisted wheelie bars and crazy weight bias for example) and especially given you average driver it can even be superior in the turns (since most drivers aren’t capable of extracting every last bit from a car handling wise, FWD is more forgiving). The End.

the SVT contour bone stock will out handle the grad prix any day
straight line performance isn’t everything:rolleyes:
the SVT will eat up a grad prix on a roadcourse/auto x
second if your talking GTP…thats boost vs. N/A
so if you take a S/C SVT contour vs. GTP to level the playing field…there is no comparison…a boosted SVT will kill a GTP.
there is nothing wrong with a gtp if thats what you like…i just think they are ugly especially the dash/console…looks cheap, and if you could get them in a maunal it might better, but the slush box sucks.
SVT aint factory stock is it?

why not…its through the dealer and owned by ford…not like roush or saleen
its just like mazdaspeed, TRD, M, etc…
same as the type-R integra…it comes from honda/acura like that

SVT is a devisioin of Ford that takes a certain amount of rides and makes
them into specailty vehicles. then theyre spronsed thru the dealers. thus
being only a few SVT dealers out there
just like tom henry, tom clark and so on

the contour did not come stock with a SC. so yes that still makes them a fair comparison, and no…the SVT Contour still does not handle a Grand Prix GTP.

I’ve seen tests where the GTO has churned out a 13.3
Who ran these tests? I’m not saying I don’t believe you, I just want to read up a little.
And the svt will rape the gtp on handling.

have you driven both? I have thats why i can say what i said.
if I’m not mistalen MM&FF ran the 03 Cobra vs the new GTO. And Mustered a 12.6 out of the Cobra and a 13.3 from the GTO.
GM High Performance is also rumoring the GTO is using a similar camshaft to that of the Z06, and heads as well.
Keep in mind the GTO has a curb weight of 3890lbs

Thanks for the test info - i’ll look it up
I have driven both a svt and a gtp. The gtp is nowhere even close to a svt contour in handling. The contour is a smaller, lighter, better handling car. It is a little slower at the drag srtip though.

when i drove the SVT contour, i felt it slide out from under me a lot, as well as oversteer. the GTP did none of that for me, which was really surprising since most boosted automatics arent the best at making lots and lots of turns with quick succession

yeah that weigh is a little heavy just like a drop top ta

are you on crack…the only thing the gtp is better at is straight line…1/4 mile…and it isn’bt by a that much…and that has a lot to do with the tq. advantage of the gtp…from a roll they are pretty even.
the GTP is a boat in the twisties…the SVT pulls .9g on the skidpad stock…the GTP can’t touch that…thats up near s2000, Z06 etc… lateral Accel #'s
even the evo and Sti are only .88g stock.
GTP isn’t even in the same class when you talk about handling
