There was a thread in a GTR forum about voiding the warranty.
If you disable the vdc, which is necessary when you enable the launch control, you void your warranty. It is stated in the manual.
So if you break your tranny, which one guy did, you have to pay for the repairs yourself. He was quoted $20,000 for a new tranny …

“One of my techs just got back from a special Nissan training GTR deal. Here are some interesting Facts.
-Can only launch the car 15 times before the transmission gives out. The most Nissan has got was 34 launches.
-The fluid lists at 80 dollars a quart. It costs dealerships 49.99 a quart. The car takes 10 quarts.
-The warranty depends on the driving, there is a black box in it just like an airplane.
-Customers have to sign a waiver stating they will not complain about brake or transmission noise.
-The brakes MUST be replaced at the same time, cost for replacing 6500.
-If something goes wrong other than an oil change at the dealership, a special team needs to be called and your outta a car for a while.”
lol 70k, also comes with free headaches

SRSLY?
iirc you cannot even change the wheels.
And with GPS in japan, only approved tracks are allowed to remove the upper limit on speed. Even then, must be done by Nissan or your warranty is voided the moment you hit the track.
There will be little aftermarket support.
There have been at least a few GT-R owners who have put Volks on the car already.

Does the Corvette ZR-1 suffer from these types of issues? Is there a limit to how much you can launch the ZR-1? I really like the GT-R, but to me it seems like the ZR-1 is the more reliable of the two. Sure it might cost a bit more, but factoring in maintenance and breakdowns, it’ll probably end up costing less.

A 997TT is a street Porsche and it can be turned off.
How would Ferrari know you turned it off?, they don’t have the dreaded blackbox.
Also, the amount of money Ferrari have put into the F1 transmission must be in the 10’s of millions of dollars, its a bulletproof gearbox that is proven in formula 1.
I did 36,000ks in my old F430 and it never missed a beat, i drove with the traction control off most of the time and the service costs were cheaper than the GT-R.
I sold it and got the Scuderia and the improvements are staggering.
No where does it say in the manual that the warranty is void if TC is turned off…
GT-R can never be compared to a Ferrari… ever.
lol must be nice.

Regardless I guess we will find out…that dude from Rochester has one now and was racing it at NYI
is he consistently using the launch control? Should be in the 11s with it, if I remember correctly. I have read that without the launch control, ~12.3 is the fastest. The car suffers from a bog out without the LC.
From his post in a thread about this on roclife:
I think we need to establish a few things first.
1- The GT-R is no ringer. If you guys have read the review conducted at Autobahn Country Club that I posted in the power and performance section with a stock motor C6 Z06 Vs. my GT-R you’d see the GT-R is the real deal. Further more the Z06 had 25k in its suspension and brake mods. You’ll read how a certified IRL driver was was able to beat his Z06 time by .3 seconds in the GT-R. Now .3 does sound like a whole lot but remember this cars suspension and brake mods were far far better then a stock Z06.
2- Porsche’s statement of “ringer” was called out by Nissan last week in the form of a challenge.
3- My GT-R ran 11.6 @ 121 at NYIRP… The best I could ever do with the in its stock form was Z06 was an 11.7 @ 125…granted the Z06 has the higher trap but the GT-R still won the 1/4 mile race. And I dint think I’m a slouch driver…I’m not the best by any means but Id say Im pretty decent in the 1/4 mile. Further more, IMO you take your TYPICAL Z06 driver and place him against ANY GT-R owner- the GT-R will win- ESPECIALLY on the street.
4- The transmission that have been blown were all SEVERELY abused by the owners… Now I DO NOT agree with what Nissan is doing to the customer about turning VDC off will void the warranty- I foresee a law suit coming that I think the consumer will win.
On a side note- I personally have launched my car about 8-10 times… and have turned off the VDC from 1st gear rolls because I hate the traction control and how it slows up the car and makes it shift early when the tires spin. I just had my service done- Car and tranny is still in perfect shape.
5- The GT-R is the real deal- Every road racing driver in it so far has come out and said how amazing this car is. Should ppl sweat it…no. Because at the end of the day its just a car but they should respect it.
6- Project AMS GTR has begun… the problems and weak points of this car will be adressed…The Ecu will be cracked, I already know how to erase the black box… but that secret is staying mine- Im not telling the NAGTROC forum members for Nissan to see we all know how to cheat them because Nissan is deffinatley on that site. Eric has already set a goal- 600+whp with basic boltons…800whp on 93 octane with turbo upgrades.
Im stoked.
