Guaging Interest: IAP KA-T complete turbo kits

I have been in contact with Marc from IAP (www.import-autoperformance.com) about getting a group buy setup for some of their turbo kits. This is the info he has sent me so far.

Here is the breakdown:

Stage 1 Kit: $2699+ shipping USD
Stage 1+ Kit: $4599+ shipping USD
Stage 2 Kit: $6999+ shipping USD

The info on what the kits contain are on their website. Apparently, if 5+ people are confirmed interested, the price starts to drop. Im not sure how much yet and im still trying to work out exact pricing and estimated shipping costs and the cheapest way around that.

All kits right now are running a 4 week turnaround time, not more, not less. Yes it is a long time, and we are working on it, but we would much rather give you the REAL timeframe than to have you be disspointed because it doesn’t arrive when we told you it would. We expect this condition to lessen in July, but for June count on 4 weeks. I made a joke about the Snickers bars, but in reality what we end up waiting for the longest are the turbos from ITS. They make them for US only and they are 100% fresh cast, NEW turbos, and coupled with a 1 week ship time from California, adds to the turnaround time.

This seems to be more or less the best kit available at this time for a KA-T. And the customer service is a lot better than boostdesigns (they even respond to my emails daily).

Anyway, post it up if you’re interested.

Quite possibly interested. I will be buying a kit in the July/Aug area.

For anyone else interested, here it is (Stage I, that is):

Our Stage I Turbo Kit Includes:

* T3/T4 Hybrid Innovative Turbo Systems turbo-When you place your order, we will custom build your turbo for your driving style. These are not 'off the shelf' turbos. They are custom made for us and include 360 degree thrust bearings, GT series wheels and outstanding quality.
* Walbro High Pressure/High Volume 255 LPH Fuel Pump (recommended) or Vortec FMU (connections not included due to user placement of FMU). Either of these units provide the extra fuel needed for those with an aftermarket boost controller who plan on exceeding the stock Stage I kit's 7 PSI of boost.
* Oil Feed/Return Lines-Stainless steel braided line, with custom fittings and flange for the oil pan. (NO WELDING NECESSARY!).
* Front Mount Intercooler-custom made to fit in the factory bumper area. Core measures 27" wide X 6" tall X 3" deep. Overall dimensions are 33" wide X 6" tall X 3" deep. Our intercoolers are tested to 35PSI under water to ensure leak free performance and support up to 500HP.
(slight bumper cover modifications required: outlined clearly in instruction manual)
* 2" Intercooler piping/silicone couplers/hose clamps. Intercooler piping is shipped with flange for Greddy Type-S Blow Off Valve pre-welded on. (If you would like a different flange, please specify at time of order).
* Tial 38mm Wastegate.
* IAP Custom Equal Length Turbo Manifold and Downpipe. (IAP Downpipe mates up to Greddy or other SR20 downpipes. The Greddy SR20 downpipe is now INCLUDED with our kit! Downpipe also retains threaded port for factory front O2 sensor).
* Full instruction manual with color photos included to make your installation as easy and fast as possible!
* Full 1 year warranty on Manifold, Downpipe and Turbo.
* Kit fits both KA24E SOHC or KA24DE DOHC engines (Specify when ordering).

It’s kinda funny, i’ve wanted this kit all along…the price was just a bit too high to justify. Their service is AMAZING.

Well you can get it at the price i stated above even if no one else wants one.

That’s awesome! I will def. consider this…IAP is #1 on my list despite the extra cost.

I still need to save some dough, get my clutch & light flywheel in first. So I should be ready to buy sometime around…say…sometime mid-Julyish maybe? In other words, a month or a bit more or so.

Can you do me a favour and ask them how much could be taken off if the Walbro pump/FMU is removed from my specific kit?

Thanks for the hook-up bro!

“Mid-Julyish maybe” is what I am thinking as well… I’ll keep you posted

any chance of getting the kit but without the turbo??

so exactly what is the cost? the exact cost that we will pay for one of these? let me know then we talk cause im really interested. brocoli@gmail.com

I talked to the guy at IAP. He said there is no problem customizing what your kit contains. They are a custom shop so thats what they do. It would be a matter of handling it on a case per case basis and you would have to email them with exactly what you wanted. This is good news of course. Not being retricted to the contents of a certain kits means its easy for people to purchase what they need to finish their turbo setups since most people, like myself, start buying pieces little by little.

As for the price, that all depends on how many people buy. As it stands, the price is as listed above. I was asked by IAP to see how many people were interested and depending on how many, they could give a reduced price. They have not told me exactly how many purchases would be required to get a specific price unfortunatly. The other contributing issue to the price is of course shipping. That price would include shipping to a US address. Of course that is useless to us unless we set it up so that it is shipped somewhere in the US and one of us drives to pick them up. Otherwise, increased shipping and customs charges will apply although im not sure how much they will be exactly. If anyone had an idea on the best courier to use as to not get charged unnecessary brokerage fees and such, please let me know so I may pass that info to IAP.

Thanks for all the work, dude. It sounds to me like it would REALLY be worth finding a spot to deliver this stuff in the U.S. and then having someone drive it back.

Next time you talk to him, see if you can find out if battery relocation is required due to piping configuration…I don’t think it is, but apparently BoostDesigns’ kit requires it.

As a side note, remember also we’re gonna have to specify:

  • DOHC or SOHC

  • T3/T4 Turbo specs (they’re custom-made)

  • Walbro pump OR FMU

  • Flange type (default is Greddy Type-S)

  • Anything to exclude from the kit you already have

  • and also the BOV itself is not included…

I hope this buy can work out well!

about the shipping right. my sisters b/f lives in Indinana and i already cleared that my shit can go to him and go grab it off him, soooo if someone is down for a road trip…then we can grab them there and dodge all the bs

Thats a good backup. But i’d say if we were going to send it to the US, a PO box in buffalo would be the easiest. Im sure they would have no problem sending it to a PO box once we all paid. Either way, picking it up from the US seems like the best idea.

Update:
If we get 5 people to buy at once, shipping is free to the US. And he says there is no problem shipping to a PO box. We just need to find one of adequite size since the boxes the kit comes in is 36x16x16. I have a truck that will fit more than 5 easily in it so it wouldn’t be a problem picking them up. Since most of you seem to be saying towards the end of July, I say we make a date for this group buy to close so we can get as many people to buy together as we can. The kits have a 1 month turn around time so I would like to get them ordered by the end of July. What do you guys think?

FYI: if you’re going across the border in an open truck full of boxes of expensive shiny new parts it might cost you …

Thanks for the updates. I am leaning more & more towards this kit. In fact, i’m pretty much sold on it (always have been). How will we pay for this? Paypal or cash I guess?

Isn’t the shipping to U.S. of the kits free anyway? So shouldn’t we see the main kit price come down some more, assuming we can get ~5 buyers, no? I could have just missed something…

By end of July sounds good to me…

My truck has a cap on the back. its all closed in. its a work truck and there will just be a bunch of brown boxes. aka work supplies.

No the price we have doesn’t include shipping. But it looks like it will be free anyway. And hopefully if we get more people it can get a little cheaper. Payment is made via paypal.

Well if everything works out, n we get a price drop, ill be in for a stage 1 kit for then end of july… Keep me posted, but i will keep n eye on this thread.
