Wow there is a LOT of misinformation in here… Not meaning to offend anyone, but lets get real folks, how many of you have actually trained with any of your firearms?
Specifically, using 5.56 for home defense and claiming it’ll go into a neighbors house? That is a complete misnomer. If you choose the correct configuration, a 5.56 round is in hydrostatic over 2850FPS and will tumble and disintegrate when hitting an object. If it falls below 2850, that is when you have to be careful of over penetration. Ammo choice, and barrel choice are HUGE factors.
I have had extensive training with both AR-15’s and shotguns, but I still think I’d rather grab my AR for a home invasion and leave my shotgun for my wife to grab if need be.
For home defense, I would recommend two things: A purpose-built AR-15, and a autoloader shotgun. More specifically, I’d recommend an AR in 5.56 w/ Rails, Flip Iron sights, Aimpoint H-1Micro optic, rail-mounted flashlight, angled foregrip. For the shotgun I’d recommend a Mossberg 930SPX, pretty much as is. Load it as follows: Bean Bag Round in chamber, 00/000 Buck, Slug, Buck, Slug, etc. The 930SPX is 7+1.
Plan on spending about $600 on the SPX, and about $1400-1500 on a properly built AR-15.
Thanks for the info dude! Im leaning more towards a tactical shotgun now than the rifle’s I think, especially price-wise! Do you sell the SPX’s? And can you get a pistol grip setup rather than the stock for them?
