Would you get a handgun or rifle?

I can apply for a pistol permit, wait, and hopefully get approved and then buy a hang gun…

or I can buy :

right now…

What to do, what to do…

What would you do, and why?

I’d personally go rifle just based on the fact it will take forever to get the handgun permit.

I picked this bad boy up on valentines day…Bushmaster M4A3 . Picked up a couple extra 20 round mags, and a couple hundred rounds. They were out of 30 round mags, but should have some by next weekend, as well as a verticle front mount grip and a shure light under barrell. after that im gonna save up for a nice Eo-Tec optics ghost sight.

these guns are simply amazing!

edit - I heard a report yesterday about the fact some politician(name escapes me at the moment) is trying to make it so you would need a million dollar insurance policy to own a gun. They didn’t mention wether it would be on only guns going forward, or previously purchased guns as well. \

Well what are your intentions???

Shoot up an office or shoot up a park?

Have it in my house, go to the range, maybe bring it up to my buddie’s cottage and shoot some shit…

I would say do both as it is fairly cheap to get your permit and you will always have it.It is going to get ALOT harder soon to get your permit

shotgun or pistol for home defense

rifle for range/shooting stuff

I go with a rifle, less paperwork and hassle. I have a WW2 collection. Well, trying to have a ww2 collection, it consists of a Mosin Nagat Yugo edition, when I got it it was still in the paper and all the muck was in the barrel. Shoot like a dream. I’m looking for the grenade launcher attachment but no luck at the shows I go to.

Id go with the pistol then… But thats because I want one purely for balla status lol.

Rifles are fun but if you dont hunt, I feel a pistol is more practical (self defense, recreation shooting, pistol whipping, etc).

I’d get a pistol with a concealed carry permit.

i thought they had at least one or two at the show last weekend…there’s another show next weekend at the hamburg fairgrounds.

First question, do you live out side the NYC city limits?

Depending on what county you live in you may need to jump though a few extra hoops for just a rifle, or if you are in one of the decent county’s you will be able to just purchase a long gun just like any other normal person in NYS.

If you are looking for a specific home defense gun I would go with a 12 or 20ga shot gun (with a normal butt stock no pistol grip). Both Remington and mossberg are great guns and can by had for a decent price.

I would go with a shot gun now and then file for your pistol permit. So you can at least get the process started. This is of course only if you do not live with in the NYC limits. If you do you will not be able to get a permit.

bayoneting someone > pistol whip :mamoru:

I’d go with a .22 rifle and a 4x scope then. Dirt cheap ammo, target shoot all day without a bruised shoulder the next. But I guess because of the way that I grew up with guns so “cool factor” holds no value to me. That’s not suggesting or criticizing anything, just personal preference. I guess I’m just more interested in “shooting” than the gun itself.

:word:

How long does it actually take for a NYS pistol permit request to be processed?

It depends on the county, but last I’ve heard for Erie is over a year.

I’ve heard 3 months to a year+. If you want something sooner you’re better off going shopping on East Ferry. :mamoru:

I live in Westchester… outside of NYC

How much are shotguns?

Do you need to shoot a bitch today or a year from now?

If you just want to go plinking buy a .22 because the ammo is cheap as hell.

If you’re buying it for home protection get a short barrel 16 gauge shotgun and some #1 buck. It won’t go into the neighbors house like 00 buck in a 12 gauge but will still really fuck someone up just firing in a person’s general direction. Of course for home protection that gun has to be accessible, which presents a problem with safety if there are kids around. Enter handguns…

.40 in a keypad access drawer safe. 165 grain jacketed hollow point, clip loaded, chamber empty.

That 16 gauge will be expensive to just target shoot with as 16 gauge ammo is less available and therefor more expensive than 12 gauge.

250-800+, depending on what you want

i want a cheap 870…
