another plinking rifle option may be a 9mm chambered carbine. cheap ammo, but the rifle cost is a bit more than say a .22
Home protection is about the last thing on the priority list. I have a couple very large sais and am fairly capable of very close combat. If he has a gun, that’s what insurance is for… lol
Priorities:
- Easy to maintain
- Not illegal
- Fun to shoot
- Easy to shoot
- Cheap to own/maintain/shoot
- Good for home protection
10/22? or do you want more power than that?
I prefer Remington 870 pump action shotguns. They are priced good very durable and have a nice selection of models.
I know I have mentioned it here before but if you want to learn more about the laws in your county join on www.nyfirearms.com. I think they have a few members from down your way and could help you out a bit more on the laws.
Are you looking for self defense, or a gun to take to the range? It seems viable to purchase a rifle now, and then down the road you might finally get your pistol permit and be able to have a pistol as well. Seems like the best route to take…
check out some hi-point carbines
http://www.hi-pointfirearms.com/
cheap to purchase, can be found in 9mm, .40 and .223
9mm is cheap ammo. I seen one last weekend at the gun show for $125.
not the highest quality when compared to something like a Ruger PC4 or PC9 or even Kel-Tec Sub 2000 or Sub16, but still decent and fun to fire.
22 LR. Accurate at the distances you’ll be shooting at, ammo is the cheapest of any you’ll find, guns are cheap and there are 100’s of models to choose from.
Mosins never EVER had a grenade lug on them. Maybe you mean an SKS. The Yugo 59/66’s had one attached. Are you sure its Yugo?
And Howie, you live in NYC. Dont even waste your time trying to get a pistol permit. Get a rifle.
This is what you need…http://www.saiga-12.com/ Not sure of NYC legality though. Probably ok though.
I live in Westchester… outside of NYC
Handgun might work then. Go to a local gun store and ask about the average waiting time on a pistol permit. Or move to New Hampshire. You dont need a permit to have a handgun there
Mossberg 500a
+1
It takes a while, but once you have it, it will last for ever! Unless you go to jail, or they ban all guns of course!
I have both long guns and hand guns… hand guns are just more fun in my eyes.
This just made my week.
desert eagle… just to say it with a Bullet Tooth Tony accent
is howie secretly…
You’re all kinds of messed up. Hi-points don’t come in .223. The cheapest (carbine) at the gun show was $179. There were a bunch for $325 but thats a huge rip off.
If you’re talking about a Hi-point pistol, you still need to wait up to a year to buy a $125 POS Hi-point pistol.
The Hi-point carbines are fun to dick around with.
Get a Ruger 10/22. You can rice it out like a Civic. Ammo is cheap, the gun is cheap. You aren’t concerned with home defense, and if you are buy a shotgun and a 10/22.
lol sais!! what a useless weapon!
if you’re looking for fun just go with a .22, man ammo isnt getting any cheaper and bigger rifles are gonna put a hurting on your wallet…
AHH the H2 of the gun world…
Not really good for anything other than being looked at.
you’re right…it was the Kel-Tec that came in .223. My appologies.
The Hi-Points they were selling came with the scope, Which I was not familiar with that scope, but didn’t seem worth the extra $200 IMO.
As far as Hi-Point pistols, I have no idea, as I have never handled/fired/looked at one.
Not so useless.
