So I plan on buying a single shot, bolt action .50 cal rifle this fall and was wondering if anyone on here owns one? My parents have awesome property to shoot it on along with all our other guns, and I just figured I would see if anyone else on here has spent time with these monsters of a gun.
Save the “rounds are to expensive. blah blah blah” btw, I have always wanted one, just figured now is the time to get one.
Its def a gun that you can go out and shoot all day.
When I worked in Texas a few of the guys had a bunch of guns and one was the 50 cal. It was fun to shoot twice. Had it on a table and shot down a range and then got to lay prone like I was in call of duty. I was sore as hell for 2 days but it was cool. They bought like repacked shells which were I think $300 for 30. New rounds I think they said would run about $30 a round.
We also were shooting at 300 yards but the thing can shoot like a mile so make sure you have a huge piece of property so you can actually use it.
But being serious, I’d go 416 over 50bmg any day if I ever got to where I have the skill and the room to play in the 1000 yard range. Right now I’m happy to go out and hit a 300 yard shot with the 300 mag.
I shot a bolt action once, I’m not a big guy. 140 lbs. It wasn’t horrible, but I wouldn’t want to shoot that one all day. As freek said, find a low FELT recoil and your shoulder will be alright. Maybe not your wallet for rounds lol.
Post pics or ban when you get it.
