Crazy man, glad to hear everyone was ok. It has been my experience that even if you aren’t home a break in really robs your sense of security, I could only imagine being robbed via knife point and tied up.
I carry my pistol from the moment I get dressed in the morning, why have a gun if you’re in no situation to use it?

I feel really bad for your parents emotional state. While it wouldn’t really bother me, I could see how insecure it could make them feel.
I try to tell my wife to not answer the door and to watch over her shoulder all the time, but these things do happen.

I also have my permit for NYS. I think I can carry in something like 35-38 states. I’ve got a map around here somewhere that shows where I’m good. It takes forever in NYS but it is worth it as they are good forever.

Yes, no one answers the door during the day time with buckshot in hand but I certainty have either my xd40 or 870 at my side when answering the door after dark. Couple the security/awareness of having a dog and shotgun, you will be the one with an advantage. Rifles are next to useless in close quarters unless you want sight the bastard running away.

A dog is an awesome safeguard. My dog is a giant pussy, and his bark will scare of 95% of people that come to my house. Cable guys and other workers usually ask me to put him outside or in another room.

I carry. My gun isnt necessarily on me all the time at home, but it is easily accesible and my wife is almost as good a shot as me. If someone comes in, one of us will be ready with one of our guns.

My neighbor’s house was broken into a month or two back in the middle of the day. Whoever broke in ripped the stove from the wall in the kitchen, cut the gas line and placed a lit candle on the stove (I guess in hopes to blow the house up…?). Pretty freaky shit.
After weeks of sitting on his back patio alone in the dark every night, he put his house up for sale last week.
