The 1 or 2 summer platoon leaders course? Just curious if anyone else is in the program or has just applied for it…
Just went to my interview today, which went really well… With some luck I’ll be on the self improvement road.

 i got in
congrats brother
Everyone gets in. They gonna send ya ass to the desert.
… no… I said Marines PLC… not Marines…
6/10 week platoon leadership training in VA… all expenses paid, and they pay you $2,600-4k and then tuition assistance if you plan on going into the actual marines… you dont have to sign any of your life away… and if you want to they will garauntee you a spot in flight training school…
they only accept 2 out of every 10 people that apply…
But I guess… if they move the training site from VA to the middle east I may have a possibility of going there…
The army reserve also says: “One weekend a month, two weeks a year”
… yeah right.
long as you arent activated
Good luck with your endeavors.
The military frightens me. Seems to me like they could sell a drowning man a glass of water.
Been there done that. And will never go back.
Just don’t sign anything yet, DON’T DO IT
You make it sound like it’s Club Med. Or your average internship. Expenses paid  Do you have any idea what you’re about to get into? Believe me, you’re going to pay for your expenses.
:wstupid:
you’re about to dance with the gator man
hows that?
No, actually he will be dancing with the water mocassins (sp?) in “The Quigley”.
Bad analogy. PLC is all the stress and challenge of normal marine bootcamp (especially for someone who has never been to Parris Island or San Diego) + way more mental stress and classes crammed into 6 weeks instead of 10-12.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t go for it. Anyone who can get through this will gain a lot of respect in my book. But do not for a second dis-associate (sp?) PLC from being a Marine. They are about to attempt to not only turn you into a Marine, but a LEADER of Marines. And you will have less field time that your average Marine Private.
P.S. Don’t believe the hype about “guaranteed” pilot slots. A lot can happen between now and you finishing PLC that will change that. Slots are given based on need. We are now in the last era of the fighter pilot. There are less slots than when I was in. Keep that in the back of your mind and be prepared to handle another duty other than flying if it comes to you.
I don’t think “self-improvement” should be the major reason for going ahead with this.
well no shit its part of the marines… you are misreading the thread…
he thought i was omw into battle… and by doing the PLC you have no chance of going into battle…
still… how will i be ‘paying’ anything for this?
You dont have any ‘duty’ or any responsibility to the marines after doing this… you dont have to sign anything…
Okay, so you’re really not into the idea of going into the marines. So what are you looking to gain from it?
… why is this turning into a discussion of what i want to do?
I know what I want to do, and I know why I want to do it… its what im going to do and its not up for argument lol
I know I can do it… my family knows i can do it… and my friends know i can do it…
The recruiter himself trains all the recruits he sends into this program and wont let you on the plane unless he feels conf that youll make it through… training every sat morning @ UB… as well as a weekly schedule of running and workouts for preparation…
Reguardless… I made the thread asking if anyone else applied and/or got in and is doing this…
You are misreading what I said. Read it again.
Nothing in this world is for free. The Marine Corps isn’t “paying” your way to self improvement. They are “paying” to see if you have the aptitude to become a leader of Marines. You will “pay”. Physically and mentally. This isn’t self improvement camp. No you don’t have an “obligation”. But once you step on that base you are in a whole new ballgame.
Don’t waste your time or theirs if you plan on quitting when you “feel” like you no longer want to do this. It isn’t that simple.
And believe me, after PLC is LT school. That’s 6 months. After that, depending on your MOS you may get additional training. But make no mistake you will be rotating out to the sandbox, especially with today’s world politics and the “fight against terrorism”
You complete PLC and graduate college, ETA to the sandbox is about 1 year max.
This is of course, assuming you even make it through PLC.
If you are serious about this, here is my advice: Don’t do the 2 six week PLC stints. Do the one 10 week stint. Do the 10 week stint AFTER you graduate. Two reasons for this:
You give yourself time to get in proper shape. I can’t stress this enough. You need to BE IN SHAPE. If you think you are in shape you are not. You are never in shape
You will have time to be sure that this is what you want to do.
You can still concentrate on school completely, and not try to do two things at once (study and prepare for PLC).
You will be able to “stay in the swing of things”. It will be an easier transition from OCS to Lieutenant School if you go straight from OCS as opposed to coming back, getting comfortable in civilian life again for a year or two or whatever until you finish school. You want to go to LT school while everything from OCS is still fresh in your mind, and you are used to the routine of military life.
That is my general advice. I’ve already done this. So I know what I’m talking about.
You want to hear more, you know where to find me.
If you are serious about becoming a Marine, then I wish you the best of luck. I hope you succeed.
