Has anyone ever seen an awesome C4 vette?

I just like doing things that haven’t really been done before…

I am 100% serious that I am not starting another project. Or buying another car. This is just food for thought.

I would probably do an RB26 ratrod before the vette.

Why not an RB26 MB or some other tiny Brittish car?

 RB26 in a GNX would make some rednecks angry

Or an MG!

Don’t forget about the Cimarron
I have been told guys at GM have posters that say “Never Forget” with a picture of the Cimarron

Edit; I was close:
“According to Car and Driver, current Cadillac product director John Howell has a picture of the Cimarron on his wall captioned, “Lest we forget.””

Perfect bump:

Still no.

Only c4 that is cool is the one Nelson racing engines built.

Reading through this and remembering it started ten years ago is crazy lol

Also realizing that there really hasn’t been any cool C4 Corvettes in that time :face_with_monocle:

I’ve only ever seen 1

I personally dig that design with the wide body and spoiler.

Neat! Cringe moment though when the headlights flip and one doesn’t work, lol. Even when papered they’ll fail.

Definitely got this song in my head because of that video.

This is actually awesome:

I am a dumb “young adult” who was looking for a fun daily Spring of last year. My budget was strict but my dreams were big. Many a rational choice like an older Si or GTI went out the window in the heat of passion. I knew who I was and I knew I was gonna be that guy that’d daily an old sportscar. I went out and bought myself a C4 Corvette to drive year round in Indiana (snow, rain, heat, all of it) sure that it’d work out great… And you know what? It was the best buy I’ve ever made.

The car is a 1992 Corvette with the LT1 and 6 speed manual. I purchased it with ~200,000 miles (I know) for $3800. The car had been for sale for a while without any buyers, I assume on account of mileage. I’m somewhat competent with a wrench but one of my pals is a mechanic. We checked it out and it wasn’t necessarily pretty but mechanically seemed near mint. What the hell? Worth the gamble I figured.

I’ve now driven the car over 40,000 miles since I purchased it rain or shine (snow too) without any major issues. Mechanically the car has been great with the minor exception of the idle air control causing uneven idle but that was maybe a $40 fix. I’ve just done routine maintenance such as oil, brake fluid, coolant, and pads. It’s pretty cheap to insure and surprisingly good on gas. I average 24 mpg through my daily commute of 35 miles but can easily achieve 28 mpg if I drive her gently. Tire wise it came with Continental Extreme Contact DWS I ran last year and through winter. I now have Falken RT615K+ on but will change as the cold approaches.

For driving experience I absolutely love it. It is far from a perfect car but for the money I can’t think of anything I’d rather drive. It’s such a hoot my mechanic friend ended up with one of his own. My favorite part is probably the sound. The LT motors and even the earlier L98s sound fantastic. I’ve got the stock exhaust without mufflers and it growls and sounds mean under engine braking while still not droning on the interstate. Handling wise the car is FAR better than one might expect out of an 80s Chassis with a Chevrolet badge. My roommate has an S2000 that I have a good bit of seat time in. The S2000 is certainly much more precise on center and more flickable with less roll but in terms of outright grip I’m not so sure. It certainly dusts the S2K in a drag if nothing else. This is probably sacrilege but I wouldn’t take that Honda over my lowly Chevrolet in 75% of cases.

Comfort is mediocre. Sport seats and adjustable suspension make it better but if you care about the comfort this car isn’t the one for you. The door sills are hellishly tall so grabdma ain’t going for a ride. Interior quality is really not too terrible for an early 90s car. Plenty of cheap plastic but it’s all formed well and doesn’t rattle a whole lot in my specific case. Storage capacity is excellent barring the fact you have to lift stuff up somewhat high to load it but that probably wouldn’t be an issue unless you’re vertically challenged.

All in all, I would make the same decision again without hesitation. To anyone looking for a fun car well under $10K I’d seriously consider a C4 Corvette.

Tom Nelson and his team do some pretty crazy work. I’d love to own one of his or Steve Morris’s engines but I don’t have any extra organs to donate.
