Have you filed your 2009 Taxes yet?

I need a better strategy for 09, I paid in way too much taxes and know I’ll only see maybe 10% back. (I’ve already bumped from single/0 to single/2)

Just finished.

Just got my W2 today, but I’m going to wait a few days into February this year. Last year those fucking assholes at NYS sent me a 1099 late and I ended up having to do an amended return, on a full schedule C. It was one of those, “maybe I’ll take me rifle to a high tower in Albany” moments. So this year I’m going to be damned sure I have all my interest statements and other paperwork before I file.

i got my W-2 but still waiting on capital gains shit, also haven’t seen anything from my bank… just realized that, which would be mortgage/tax info and money market accounts.

got a dumb question, if you did any kind of moonlighting on the side, is there a minimum that you have to make to claim it as income? Sort of like lottory winnings where you have to win “X” amount of money before you’re required to claim it?

can we change the title please

I have one more W2 I’m waiting on, then I’m filing… in rough form it loks to be about $3400 from Fed, and $400 back from state… And that was Single 2 for 1/2 of last year… time to adjust my witholdings back to that or higher.

Got my W-2 last week. I will be getting them done next week.

lol

Still waiting on form from unemployment…

Good catch. 2008

Yup, and federal is scheduled for direct deposit on Feb. 6th.

$2487 Federal
$100 State

If you get a 1099 you have to claim it.

The company you did work for doesn’t have to 1099 you if it’s under a certain amount. $600 I believe but I’m not 100% sure on that amount. The problem is most places/people will send you a 1099 regardless because they want to write off what they paid you on their expense books.

looking at a little over 12k
wife and I

What sort of refunds / deductions / write-offs do you have to have to get 12k back?!?

Weekly daycare = $300 all year long :frowning:
Got back a good % of that. I also claimed 8y/0
I did about $69ish all together (state/fed). WIfe got $57ish

A little over 12 k together.

edit: We used hrblock

Please tell me you have no debt. You could change your deductions and use the extra money you’d be getting every week to pay off debt that’s costing you interest instead of giving the government and interest free loan.

The last think I’d be doing is posting a “:-)” if I was getting 12k back. All that means is I’ve been losing money each paycheck and letting the government hold on to it for free.

oh ok… well, from what I’ve heard, the company went under so hopefully they don’t send me anything lol (or the irs doesn’t really care)

it wasnt for much $$$… probably around 600 or so (fuckers do owe me like 1200 though :frowning: )

Not one credit card
No debt…everything was payed off 2 years ago.

I hate when people keep saying “that’s a free loan for the government”. One person said that, and now everyone on the damn internet is saying it. There are not too many better options out there. This past year, if you would have paid all at the end, instead of through the year, it would have been within 1 - 2% difference.
