Head bolt holes

I’m putting the heads on my new short block and have a quesiton about the thread sealer. ARP directions say to only use the thread sealer on the bolts going into the water jacket, not on blind holes. The top four head bolt holes are blind holes BUT several of them have a small hole in them. Looks like they were tapped too deep or just corroded through a little. Would these go into a water passage (I think) or an oil passage? Is it okay that there are holes? Just put some thread sealer on those ones too?

Never mind. Did a little more searching and found that it’s possible for those holes to be drilled a little too deep and break into the coolant passage. Thread sealer on them should do the trick.

See, reading books does help.

i put thread sealer on all the headbolts and manifold bolts on my sbc

I used some moly lube under the heads & washers.

It is sooooo much nicer doing this on an engine stand instead of leaning over the fenders.
