Header Wrap?

Does this stuff actually work?

My engine bay is getting Uber hot now after the S/C… and the headers probably arent helping…

I haave to take them out soon to replace a small oil leak i have, figure while they are out, i may as well wrap them…

Does this stuff work to lower underhood temps? Should i spray that silicone spray on them?

It does work, however some swear by it and others say that it damages headers after a short while.

I asked this somewhere and people told me to get them jet coated.

nothin wrong with the manifold here, wrap it up

There is only one pipe that you need to keep wrapped up…

I had wrapped headers before and it does ruin the finish but it also lowers the temps.

On your car I’d Jet coated them though, way nicer.

I’ve never seen jet hot last long on daily drivers, if you get it wet while hot it flakes and discolors

I was reading on a forum that john deere tractor muffler paint works amazing.

i dont care about them looking pretty… you can barely see them… i just want to drop the engine bay temp down a bit…

I know…but people were saying it was better than Jet hot and 19 dollars a spray can.

You have a german car, you leak oil, I hope you like fires.

I am a header rap hater. Spend the money on Jet Hot or don’t spend the money at all, ESPECIALLY on a street car.

i have had my $100 ebay turbo manifolds ceramic coated AND heat wrapped for years… at least 4 years and hundreds of thousands of hard kilometers.

they keep heat in for sure… you can touch the manifold minutes after a hot lap…

Both wrapping and ceramic coating have had no negative effect on the headers that are said to be sucky anyways…

even when i had my engine fire it wasnt the header wrap that caught… it was the wiring harness loom and the header wrap was more direct in the line of the hot oil.

this fire? http://videos.streetfire.net/video/dunville-track-day-92808_188142.htm :grouphug:

I have had my turbo SHO exhaust wrapped from the manifolds to the turbo and the down pipe for about 4 feet as well. you can touch most of the piping after hard pulls, but I have found that the wrap gets full of dirt and crap from the road and it has to be replaced about half way through the summer because it starts to conduct a lot of heat through the shit it picks up. Also keep in mind my piping is likely much more exposed than your car so that point may not be as valid.

definately a issue if you have oil leaks.

all of my piping was done in mild steel, and it is heavily rusted after only 3 summers. I do drive in the rain but never snow/salt. I attribute this partly to the headerwrap. but due to my exhaust literaly wrapping my transmission it is the best option for my application.

I just have a tiny leak from the constant pressure valve, common issue, just need a new oring for it, it’s on my list next weeekeend

my engine bay temps went down a ton after wrapping mine. Sorry, but there is no coating out there that will work as good as wrap. If this was a show car then id say get it coated since it wouldnt be seeing any real duty.

Once wrapped make sure you spray it with the high temp silicone spray to keep moisture out.
