Heater issue

I have a Carrier forced air / AC unit in my house that stopped working. With the AC on the Freon circulates but the fan doesn’t kick on. Same thing with the heat. I pulled it apart and tried it again. The fan motor heats up and then it flips a relay or heat sensor. I’m assuming the blower motor is bad.

This is the motor number: 5kcp39jgn797s

Anyone know where I can buy one?!

This is exactly what I need

Grainger has one for $120 ish but I’m not sure about the wiring…

I thought you had a problem with one of your cars not doing a burnout (which clearly is impossible)

I have nothing to contribute here

I had the same thing happen to mine recently…your’s is cheaper than mine, which was listed for $175 online.

If you can look up your furnace model number and find the part number for the motor somewhere online, you can probably find it cheaper than that…OR do what I did and take it to a local electrical place that rebuilds shit, should be under $40 to have it rebuilt

Haha that sort of heater issue is easy to fix! Just curious if anyone here had any input before I pull the trigger on the Grainger unit for $125.

Great idea!!

If you were in WNY I’d say go here because they’re the best in the area.

You just need to ask someone knowledgeable in your area who to deal with. Any good motor shop can match up what you have. I’d suggest replacing the capacitor at the same time. This is one of those rare times when I’d much rather buy local and have an expert tell me exactly what to get than try to save a buck online and guess at compatibility.

When you disconnected the old one hopefully you paid attention to which wires went to which terminals because that determines what speed the motor runs at for various cycles (heat runs slower than AC). Wire up the new on the same, slap on the new cap and put it back together.

Does it try to kick on but doesnt? Like it does a little dance or a half ass spin then stops? If you give some help by hand will it then run?

I wonder if its the start capacitor, not the motor itself. I had this happen on my AC unit. It was a $8 fix. Something to look at before you replace the motor.

Yeah, definitely worth checking the capacitor first. In my case the motor filled my downstairs with smoke when it self destructed so it was clearly a bad motor.

Haha ya, that will do it.

Some caps how have an internal “disconnect” that when they fail the can balloons up at the top and severs the leads. This way there isnt a catastrophic failure with electrolytic all over the place, etc. Thats what happened to mine.

Dan

I came to post the same thing.

The motor won’t do a thing, it just heats up. Won’t spin if I even help it. It did smell like burning one day but nothing too serious.

Before buying parts. Double check and make sure your water is being drained. Threre should be a manual release:

Build revs - Dump clutch - Grab brakes - Heater issue solved…

Remove step two for automatic.
