if you apply for HEAP. get accepted, how much a month do they pay>>> just wondering???
anybody???
anybody have HEAP??
Depending on your income, the state(yep the state!) pays for 70-100% of your heating bill. gotta go downtown for it though.
no shit… thats a lot to pay…
I thought the only people elidgeable for HEAP are married couples with small children (under 5?), and the elderly?
I know single mothers are also eligible…
well im a single student with an income WELL under 1700 a month, and im a student, and if they cover my heating bill i can afford to not have a roommate over the winter… i checked the eligibility and i fall into the catergory, its worth a shot… shit after seeing the abuses to the medicaid system,… (sorethroat in the ER, toothache in the ER, drug abuse in the ER, STDs in the ER… the list goes on, i might as well use some of the tax money i spend on this glorious erie county…)
it’s based on how many people are in ur household and the amount u bring in
So for me its 1 Person in the household with 0 income and my heating bill is 200 a month…I might be in line next to you
move into an apt where they cover heat…its nice
ehh the joys of home ownership :(… wellll cya in line 2turboz… be there monday
rofl…
The state calculates household benefits using a point system. Points are assigned based on income, percent of income spent on energy, and presence of a vulnerable individual in the household. The point value for the 2005-2006 program has been set at $50 per point. The minimum number of points is three; the maximum number of points a household can receive is eight.
So how much of your income goes to heat? Are the bike and car in your profile paid off or are you making monthly payments on them? I hope you’re laughed out of the office if you walk in there asking for heating assistance while having a motorcycle payment. With this state it probably wouldn’t happen though.
it’s a set number for instance… 1 person may be 1700 2 people may be 3400…etc…etc. SO if u make over that amount u would not qualify. That is not the actual amount, that is just for the sake of example
ok dick… no i dont have payments, my bike and car were bought before i moved to buffalo and started college, i recently bought a house, its none of your business how much of my income goes to my heat, but just to humor you, during the more expensive heating months with a low income month, it can reach nearly 40%… im not looking for sympathy, but without a roommate and being a full time student, and working 30 hours a week, plus having other obligations, shit gets expensive
so fuck off… i simply asked how much it covers… if you dont have any input on the stated question then dont post…
btw… thanks to those of you who have posted serious responses to my questions…
Well, I just find it kinda sad that there are people on fixed incomes (READ SENIORS) who are being told the money is running out for this program and they’ll be choosing between medicine, food and heat. At the same time you’re talking about seeing if you can get some money from it because, “hey, look at all the abuse of the medicaid system”, while you have a nice bike that you could sell and easily pay your heating all winter.
EDIT:
So when you see that old lady on the news talking about how she’s turned the heat down to 55 because the HEAP funds ran out, think about who the real dick is.
old people die, that is their job, well, that and fucking with my plate of food at xmas and thanksgiving dinner
its called natural selection … its a toss up … a lil medicin this week, eat next week, have a warm house on week 3, and they gotta guess if its the medical probs, the hunger or the cold thatrs gonna do them in
you won’t be eligible for heap if you have resources over 4000, and it sounds like you do, unless your vehicles and home are not in your name. also, i think this year unless you are disabled, or have previously applied, they are not accepting emergency heap applications. if you receive food stamps, you are automatically eligible.
I used to be a case manager and i actually helped people get these benefits when they needed them, so unfortunatley, i know the system
Hmm with all my toys etc payment whatever I am currently paying 160 per month fixed! doesnt go up at all! actually it did this year, last year i paid $100 per month(2200sqft) SO to say that yes very ignorant. The state will pay for alot of bullshit if you just ask them! My taxes are going to teenage mothers with no cash, to politicians with no life, Schools i dont even send kids to! I am entitled to a little break and so is everyone else, you just have to know where to look!
And here we have it folks. Everyone likes to bitch about this state and it’s taxes, but it’s ok to have the attitude of “hey, I’m going to get what ever I can because they owe me”. We have an entire state with that attitude, and we elect politicians who simply give it to us.
That’s the same as the union mentality that’s killing the US auto industry. Hell, it’s the same mentality that is causing many of the problems in this country.
That’s a whole 'nother topic. If/when I buy a house, why the hell should I be paying school taxes if I don’t have any kids? School should be paid for only by parents, and in direct proportion to how many kids they have in school.
