heel and toeing in the 240

i usually heel and toe around town and one problem i have been having often is that when i go to hit the gass with my heel i catch it on the carpet and then cannot hit the pedal. i tried the rolling your foot aproach but it doesnt work for me. so should i just place my foot further over on the brake and maybe remove the carpet from the side of the gas pedal. what are some other peoples technique for heel and toeing in the 240?

i brake with the toe (top)of my foot and roll my foot using the outside of the pinki toe area to hit the gas…my heel never does anything i can get a very good “blip” of the throttle with this method

I hav ethe carpet problem as well, but luckyliy my size 13 foot enables me to press both pedals firmly. For me it’s just a matter of shifting weight from the left to the right of the foot, it’s more of ankle toe for me.

I can’t do either, damn fused ankles…

that sucks man. what is your approach on the track? you brake earlier so you have time to revmatch or do you just engine brake?

i think i do the same thing as you guys:
half of my foot on the break, the other half to blip the gas. i call it side steping. i where skate boarding shoes (there wide) and very easy to do this with. my feet are to big to do heal toe, i also hit the carpet as well.
when i had my carpet out though, i was able to heal toe, but my leag got tired to easy.

my foot is too small for your guys way but too big for the traditional way. oh well guess im just gonna have to make it work, maybe pedal covers?

I do it by putting the center of the front of my foot on the brake and swing my heel right and down off the gas pedal. Picture the Best Motoring videos…

you don’t need clutch when you down shift gear.

This is the same for me… But I have razo pedals that seriously put the gas and brake like an inch apart.

Im looking into the razo pedals with adjustable heel-toe linkage.

^^^ Ricer…

I can’t do either. I was playing with the pedals while at a stop light
and figured the best way for me to do a heel-toe would be to use the top
half of my foot, at the very top of the brake, and then I can just turn my
foot over to hit the throttle…

Having never done this, it’s quite a bitch…Guess I’ll have to learn it
slowly…usually I just clutch in and rev up before switching gears…

I drive like grandma on a daily basis so no need for fancy footwork :expressionless:

My feet are only a size 11, well at least that’s the size of my bowling shoe.

But I can hit all three pedals at the same time with one foot if I really want to.

I use the, uh I guess it’s called the arch of my right foot to catch the bottom right corner of the brake pedal. I have rice-o-matic pedals (the car came with the remnants of a mounting kit still on the brake, no pad on the clutch, so I bought a kit) I think they’re AutotechnicA maybe? But they’re aluminum, and have pretty sharp corners, so they stick into my Adidas Gazelles (heh, clap if you’re old enough to remember those bad boys) really well.

I don’t toe heel much anyway though. I had to learn it for school, the instructors would yell at you and not let you back out until you proved to them you could do it properly.

Most of my “spirited driving” is done either in a straight line, or not competitively, so I don’t bother. Besides, with a short shifter and a 5 puck clutch (you can’t slip the damn clutch if your life depended on it) gear changes hit the back end hard, and toe heeling almost always results in a drift. So I’m more of a 1 foot 1 pedal guy.

The way they taught us was to ALWAYS drive with your feet in the same position as you toe heel … that way it wil become second nature.

I’ve seen some funny pedals at PI with “Toe Here” and “Heel Here” marked on them.

Back then, I remeber seeing guys that toe heeled the clutch/brake with their left. Worked just as well, by using your heel on the brake and the outside of your foot on the clutch, gave you steadier accelerator control.

I “heel toe” every day, every time I downshift. Its really easy once you do
it a lot. I use the side of the ball of my right foot on both pedals. I CAN’T
actually heel toe or my knee hits the steering wheel and I still can’t even
get the job done. Rolling the foot to the side is really comfortable, and
I have never had a problem with slipping off the break pedal…

i also use the sides of my foot to shift, with size 13 you dont have a lot of room to get your foot sideways in there, and my knee bangs the dash or steering wheel when i try.
being tall sucks

what is the procedure when doing “heel toe”. Also is it bad not to do this and just do engine break.

It saves the clutch a bit… As far as I know anyway.

heres a well explained how-to on heel and toe downshifting.

i bang my knee on the steering wheel in normal seating position, but if i pull the seat all the way back…i can’t reach the steering wheel properly  heel and toeing is for shorties only.

i can’t even use my heel on the gas since my shoe size is 17.
