You can’t clean em. Pour water on top, it never comes out the bottom.
BS. box of Q-tips, a toothbrush and cottonballs…little bit of Pledge. Once a week.
FWIW
When i blew up my old S30 transmission it made supercharger noises in gears 1-4, it had a strange vibration when in gear and had “not so smooth shifts”
Eventually i lost 2, 5 and reverse gears. When you shift while making supercharger noises does it studder and get louder and softer?
Josh just stopped out and went for a ride. His opinion is definitely in the tranny. No shifting issues whatsoever. Whines under acceleration and goes away when load is taken off the driveline (let off the gas). Whine pitch increases with speed / rpms. If it was louder it would sound just like a supercharger. We are agreed to check the tranny oil installed to see what was used (brand, weight, etc.) vs. the tried and true suggestion from the Z crew. Easiest, simplest starting point.
So it’s RPM dependent and not speed dependent? Then yeah, sounds like the tranny. The 5 speed in my s30 has been making a little noise for the last 15k but has taken a ton of abuse and still drives great, maybe I should think about changing the fluid.
The sound isn’t coming from the diff, it sounds like trans to me. It’s a higher pitched gear whine which makes me think the fluid that was just put in might have something to do with it.
As for the vibration, if he didn’t tell me it was there I wouldn’t have felt it. I don’t think the two are related.
Gear oil installed was of the recommended viscosity. We’ll be checking on the level / amount ASAP.
brand, weight of oil installed? and what is specified?
Needs more carbon fiber.
I’m here! Problem solved?
If end end up rebuilding the tranny, gonna hydrographic the gears in carbon fiber. Maybe even the housing.
Dont forget the driveshaft while you’re at it
