HELP- Toyota Rav4 Rear Differential Warranty

My wife has a 2008 Rav4. Two days ago it started making noise and vibrating like the passenger rear tire is riding on rumble strips. I tried switching around tires and that is not the issue. It does it from about 25-40MPH and does not matter which gear it is in. I guess this is an issue Toyota is aware of because they sent out an extended warranty for the rear differential but our expired 6.5 months ago. Is there anyone here that works for Toyota that would be able to help me get a goodwill warranty to at least help cover some of the repair cost? Thanks!

Unless you have invested all your scheduled maintenance at your local dealer and have documents to prove it. It’s tough to get a goodwill. The first thing the dealer will look for is your service history. If you have none or barely any they will push you out the door. Goodwill is money the manufacturer provides the dealer and it’s up to the dealer to choose to use it or not. At my dealer unless you bought a few cars from us and done all your maintenance here. You don’t get anything.

based on that, go directly to Toyota. this might get you results

This, I remember my father needed some work done on his matrix that was close to $3k at the dealer. He had the car serviced regularly for the most part but still wound up without getting anywhere with the dealer. He wrote a letter to Toyota and it would up costing him just over $1k in the long run. Well worth it I think to try a letter or something directly with Toyota.

I called Toyota customer care this morning and they told me since the extended warranty on this part has expired they can’t (or won’t) do anything to help me.

6.5 months out on an already extended warranty on a 10 year old car I doubt you’re going to get anywhere. It’s worth a shot but without one hell of an existing relationship with a dealer (like you and your parents have always bought and serviced there) I don’t see this going anywhere. A week or two out, maybe even a month, but this is well out of warranty.

How many miles on the vehicle? What are the terms of the extension from Toyota?

74K- the terms were until April 30, 2017 with no mileage limit or 9 years from first in service date with no mileage limit. My 9 years was up on 5/10/17

May be better off finding a used dif and paying one of the guys here some cash to swap it out.

Go buy a used diff and get it over with…

Quick search seems average is 300$. Not worth the hassle of trying to get dealer to goodwill.
