It might be stupied to ask, but did you remove the transmission mount?
It seems that you got everything else covered, just remove the driveshaft completely so it wont be in the way, and pry the tranny a little harder because somtimes it’s just welded in there.
AND BE CAREFUL
lol, don’t get me matt or jantos to help, oh and dont use a tercel … ahhh inside jokes.
But seriously, if it has already slid out a bit and is hanging down a bit then, just grab’er and giggle and yank as much as possible. Careful when prying don’t hurt your bellhousing.
I was cold, tired, frustrated and that made me stupid. Hence why I was
trying to put a wedge between the tranny and trying to have it pop off.
Was talking to Ed (applesauce) bout it today and he told me what you said
adam. So yea I’ll try that tomorrow.
As for PMing those two guys. Well I think I will let everyone have their
space and time for the holidays, and then bug them later when I have a
few days off after.
BTW, Adam, I dunno what you did with my tranny drain plug since you
last changed it last Oct. but I can’t get that fucker off. :squint:
(I’m sure it wasn’t your fault. I gave 'er, but it won’t budge).
the SR tranny is more difficult to put in and remove than the KA, but you do have to tilt it to free it up.
man, i did exactly what you did in august with my SR and i needed chris to help me with this part… it is so frustrating being under the car in your garage and not being able to get it.
I would be willing to help, however I am far away and without vehicle. I would need some way of getting to you. Add me to your msn and we can talk about it. It seems I have a fair bit of free time over the holidays.
I am going to assume that it will pry about a half an inch all the way around, tightening up the gap on the opposite side you pry on, right?
What usually happens is you are trying to pull it out at an angle, some are worse than others. I like to put a jack under the tranny and adjust it’s angle, that or get under and manhandle it. When you pry on it use two pry bars on opposite sides of the bell housing too.
Seems to me like there might be some dirt/grime/rust issue in there and the input shaft won’t come out of the friction disk… possibly the reason it is slipping as discused earlier… one of the reason’s I prefer taking the whole engine out, when it goes properly it’s not big deal, as soon as there is an issue it is a big PITA.
Little pointer for those of you that HAVE to work outside at some point… Get one of those 500w spotlights, they throw out some major radiation and will keep you quite warm, get a couple and you won’t even need gloves. I had to fix a car outside Sunday night -25 out (couldn’t get the car inside), one of those lights and my hands weren’t even remotley cold, no gloves. Another good tip is to put down carpet, a lot of it.
