my father drives a 95 Oldsmobile 88 with a 3800 v6 in it. the car all of a sudden when your drivng will start to buck and sometime stalls it starts right back up no problem. and most of the time when it starts to studder if you floor it sometimes it will come out of it and keep going. The car wont do it all the time sometime it will do it all day sometime not for a week all depends. we replaced the fuel filter still does it. Does anyone have any clue what it might be? we were told maybe the fuel pump but idk.
overdrive actuator on the transmission? did the same thing to me on my cutlass with the 3.1. unplugged it and was perfectly fine.
my 01 GP with the 3800 II did the same thing, i think we replaced the o2 sensors and fuel filter, reset the ecu and it was all good
its SO annoying lol, it sucks
were would that be ? about ? just a smiple plug on the harness or like a fuse ?
how would i reset the ecu fuse?
idk, i didnt fix it, a shop did lol.
i don’t know if the ecu was reset or not. im just guessing
i know we replaced the o2, i dont remember which one.
where are you located?
The car is in florida atm and we are leaving it up here for his GF to use when we come back home so we are trying to get this thing fixed before we come home
Hmm, those gas tanks suck in those cars, the baffles usually come loose. My dads used to not run wright when it had half tank. I do have a complete car with a brand new fuelpump if your interested.
ill call my dad n ask him for ya
i second fuel pump (similar syptoms on my 1997 Pontiac Trans Sport)
its odd it will run fine with half tank full tank empty tank then it just happens sometimes takes a week sometime everyday
map sensor
i cant really see it being that i have a 99 grand prix 3800 and my check engine light is on the map sensor is blowen for the last year and it runs mint. never had a problem and when it was time to get the inspection i bought a new map sensor and put it on cleared the codes passed the test and put old on back. not saying thats not the prob but idk
He is talking about the lockup soleniod. That will only work if you have a 3 speed(125C)tranny.It is a blue plug on the front of the trans facing the radiator. If the lockup soleniod is sticking it will try to stall when you come up to a stop.If you restart it should idle again, and be fine untill you come to a stop again.if not its probably something else.It wont hurt to unplug it but your gas mileage will be alittle worse.
Check the Mass Airflow Sensor located in the intake air tube by lightly tapping on it while the engine is running and see if it stalls as these failed very often
does it buck when it is idling? or just running? You can unplug the MAF while idling, which is the square sensor on top of the TB, and if it gets better, then the mAF might be bad. Also, check the battery cables for corrosion. Check the oil and make sure it isn’t milky, which would mean the coolent is getting into the oil. Do you have a check engine light?
www.bonnevillepro.com or www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com might be able to help with more specific stuff.
when it starts bucking i can throw the car in N and it will rev fine and stop bucking but the secodn i throw it back in drive it will start again sometime when it bucks at low speeds it will stall but sometimes it wont.
Maybe its something as simple as the wires/ignition?
If you give it more throttle when it starts to buck does it smooth out?
I’d be checking fuel pump pressure
its the map sensor. unplug it and it will run fine, it’s because it’s bad that it does it.
