ok… my jvc head unit wont turn on… everythings connected right (i think…)… when i push the display button the time pops on for a few seconds, then turns off… it is getting power obv… it takes and ejects cds… but the power wont turn on, nor will the clock stay on…
Check your wiring and fuses. Make sure you have a good ground. If all that fails, make sure your getting power coming to the headunit. After that, I’d say HU is toast. Anyone else got anything to add?
funny… how yesterday i had everything ghetto rigged together and all the wires just twisted with electrical tape and everything worked fine, system and all, just the occassional loose wire making speakers cut on and off… which is why i pulled it all back apart yesterday to solder everything and make it solid. now this. wtf
due to the fact the time goes on for a few seconds leads me to believe it has a little bit of power but no constant solid connection… violator and artic u arent the first 2 that told me that so what im gonna try is to run power off the accessory in the fusebox… this doesnt work… idk
Make sure your getting power at the yellow and red wire, and make sure black has a good ground. After that try resetting it a few times. JVC decks like to act up after awhile and resetting them fixes the problem most of the time.
If that doesnt work, you have a more serious issue with the internals.
Well if the power is coming on and off… yes, you have three wires to look at then:
Black: ground, make sure it’s grounded well or that would cause it to come on then off again
Red: Switched 12v source (not a constant like violator suggested. The way he did it, you’d have to physically turn your player on and off even when the key is not in the car)
Yellow (sometimes orange): 12v constant, this wire will get constant battery power, hence the name. It will allow your player to retain it’s memory, aka, where the cd left off, all your EQ settings etc.
Basically check those 3 wires. You will find something fucked up. If the wires aren’t, your head unit is.
If you are still not figuring it out, call me 316-8454 and you could prolly swing by my hizzouse and I’ll hook it up. But I want $$ if you want my time.
good ground… good accessory line… good 12v constant… everythings connected to its matching color… apparently im not the only one with this problem… this is exactly whats happening to me http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/4/301132.html
ugh how fucking annoying. it worked better BEFORE i fixed it all ghetto rigged together… wtf??
im actually very familiar with car audio… just never had this haoppen before? and the fact the kid in the link i posted is having the EXACT same problem leads me to believe its something stupid… cant pin point it yet…
Yank it out. Pop the hood. Bring it over to and wire it directly to the battery. At that point the car wiring is out of the picture and you isolated the radio. If its still acting up then open the top and look for a loose connection. Check the internal fuses for a partial burn.
gonna try that tomorrow morning… if it dont work im goin back to custom radio where i bought it and they can figure it out… i bought the thing like less than 2 months ago shouldnt be fucked up already
lol. I hear ya. I misunderstood your attempt to make it easy on him as far as power the thing went. Oh and you fucker, you already got 6 years in the industry??? very nice.
I was EE at UB as well.
lol i dont need an easy explanation i know what im doing… called the guy at custom radio hes a fucking idiot so im going there now to either make them fix it / get my $$ back. the install is fine, hooked up a diff JVC to the same plug & have no problems.
