help with virus

I believe that i have the “asam” virus on my laptop. I’m having a very hard time getting rid of it, anybody familiar with this or know a good site that may provide step by step instructions to get rid of? I’m not very savy with internet security. I didnt have any anti-virus on my computer at the time of infection…i downloaded CA Security Suite through RR, but i cant fully install the anti-virus and get it to update and connect to the server, which is needed before it can intialise the scan engine…

Help!!?!?

Install. Update. Scan. Bangbros.

think i will be able to get it to install fully with my computer currently infected?

Thanks for the link!

if you need to, boot into safe mode

Depending on the virus you may not be able to run any sort of AV/Malware programs.

As far as Anti-Virus goes, when you get rid of the virus get yourself Avast Anti-Virus or Microsoft Security Essnetials both are 100% free, I lean more towards MSE these days as the new verson of Avast has had some issues. For the love of god stay away from AVG, CA Suite or any paid anti-virus except Nod32

First give this a shot:

Reboot your computer, press the f8 key a few times to get the Windows Boot menu to pop up. Select Safe-Mod W/ Networking.

Open up Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Lan Settings and make sure none of the boxes in that window are checked, more specificaly in the Prox server area. Many virus’s will have this set to a Malicious proxy that will send you to bogus AV sites when trying to go to any legit site.

Now go to www.Malwarebytes.org for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Download the program and install it. It may or may not run even in safemode depending on the virus, but if the program opens up, run the Update on the Update tab and then perform a full scan.

Will take about an hour or two depending on the size of the HDD and age of the computer.

If this or another method fails to work, shoot me a PM and I will take care of you. :thumbup

The site should look like this when you go to it, if it doesnt close down your browser. Host File/DNS may be changed as well.

If you can, run Spybot Search and Destroy. If that dosen’t work, run Combofix. Try it first in regular mode, if that fails, run it in safe mode.

If it still hasn’t worked and you can’t find the reg delete instructions, you will save time by doing a reimage of the entire system. Save your files is safe mode first.

^^ That may have been the ticket right there. I did that, rebooted and redownloaded my AV. Finally got the AV engine to dl and run, and its scanning now. Found 4 bad files already.

Thanks for all the help fella’s, i’ll check back in once i run the anti spyware / vrius and see if that took car of it.

back in business, thanks again

Glad you got it straightened out, mine got some damn virus last week, and if you have anymore problems pm Shady…

For some reason now its running dead slow, 100% capacity. I think i F-ed something up messing around with msconfig startup menu before… :\

Its getting hung up on the xp welcome screen upon boot up, or sometimes wont even go past it. I shut it off and restarted it, and here were the processes running upon start up. What looks wrong here?
