its going to be a harsh reality check 10 years from now when you are in the same job and getting passed up for advancements because of lack of education. I am not saying this because i have a BS I am saying this because i have seen it happen oh so often. There are certain people at my job now, extremely smart but are kinda stuck till they get an education so they are struggling to go to school at nights. I am a firm believer of getting the education part over with and then trying to work on your career
whats funny is I have an engineering degree, and I keep getting told that you have no exp, so I wasted my time in school, becasue I have applied and applied and still nothing.
guess its just luck?
maybe you should have got experience through internships when you were in school?
I hear this place is having a mass exodus of employees: www.anter.com I used to work there.
MOST (and i know sonny will argue this) places in pitts the degree gets you the INT…but at the same time the places around here are looking for exp.
basically in pitts it’s who you know not what school/exp you have
What type of engineer? I was talking to an engineer at Westinghouse and he said they can’t hire people fast enough. They had just gotten a huge military contract. This was in February he told me this.
I can find work… work is not a problem. Work could eventually pay for my schooling which could help me get my degree and move on to bigger and better things.
we will see.
assuming what? that she just sits on here ass for 10 years and doenst do anything :ugh:
i think the question is more geared for the next few months… she isn’t abandoning schooling…
and i will disagree a degree always gets you an interview… i’ve gotten plenty without and obviously do did jenn, because she got the interview and the job
congrats on getting the offer whatever you choose!
I think the real question here, will this job help you with your degree, what is your degree in and is it going to help your degree, otherwise why is this job so important/valuable?
all i have to say is working downtown SUCKS!!! i love my job and work in the IT field. I also make very good money and SUPER EXCELLENT benefits, but the drive and the parking is killing me and i would take a pay cut just to not have to drive down here everyday, and i do park at station square for the most part.
it’s not bad at all… if you’re worrying about parking then you don’t make enough $ :hs:
jenn is lucky enough to have a few people she can carpool wtih… so on a good week she only drives herself a day or two at the most…
it’s important becasue it’s a step forward… it’s a job with one of the larger banking companies in the east coast, the experience will allow moves forward in life, the pay is better than the past, access to on the job perks, benefiets and savings for retirement… a chance to work in a new job enviroment that will teach many things to a person and on and on and on.
why isn’t accelling yourself ‘important’ or ‘valuable’… there are a LOT of people that work to work and has nothing to do with their degree or what their degree is in, that doesn’t take away from anything they achieve or attempt… i don’t understand where you are going with this.
AMEN
I am not saying it’s not valuable, but if you are targeting a specific field with your degree, maybe you should just look for a job in that field, that’s all…sounds like you’ve made your mind up or she has…
LOL … jenn did… this thread is a month old!!!
