Hesitation after start up

Hey people, on cold mornings, my car start normally but after it reaches it’s peak rpm (1400-1500 rpm) it drops down to about 1000rpm and back up to 1400 rpm where it slowly decreases from there as the car warms up, as usual…the car operates normally while its moving…this only happens on cold starts. What could it be?

cold start idle is meant to be higher to warm up your engine faster. once the coolant’s at operating temp (a few min), you should be back to your normal 700-800 rpm. this happens every morning…it just takes longer on colder days obviously.

Kimmerkaze…im not an idiot…im saying once i start it up it dips down to like 900 rpm momentarily then goes back up to normal rpm…could it be fuel filter getting clogged? or something with the sending unit?

^^sorry i couldn’t really tell by your op. it either sounds like a vacuum leak or something in need of cleaning (tb, tps, iacv, around these areas). i wouldn’t bet on fuel filter or fsu though since you said it only happens on cold starts…unless there’s something else different about the problem you’ve noticed lately?

no nothing new…if i buy carb cleaner or soemthing and spray it where the secondary butterflies are …you think it is enough to clean it up?

i’m not sure what you’re referring to by secondary butterflies…

but have you tried taking off the intake and looking at the tb valve up close to see if it’s getting stuck or anything like that? you can also try spraying some of the tb cleaner around every connection point for your vacuum hoses to see if one’s kinda loose and leaking. i had a similar problem before where i had a small vacuum leak on my egr hose that connects into the lower mani. after i tightened it up i haven’t really had any hesitation/rough idle issues so that’s why i’m thinking it might just be a vacuum leak somewhere.

i’ll give it a shot…thanks for the insight

ok so the problem is occuring more frequently now (every cold start up)…dips down below idle then shoots up to 2000 rpm then dips down below idle…then levels off to normal warming temperature…car performs beautifully when warm, idles well, pulls hard…could it be fuel pump relay? fuel filter?..i dont even know where to begin troubleshooting! help me please!
