The balls are strong with this one.
looks like he was watching his buddy, maybe to make sure he’s okay?
maybe he never even heard the officer behind him.
he was just sitting at the sign watching his buddy, and assumed the siren he heard was the cop across the street.
then looked behind him to see if there was a cop behind him (or a car waiting at the stop sign to go).
who knows.
Lol, yeah he totally deserved getting shot. Eye for an eye. Dipshit.
I am not saying the guy deserved to get shot and paralyzed becuase that is bad to wish on someone but I just don’t think the cop was completely wrong as most people are saying.
yes he could have put his hands up/kept them on the handle bars, but i still think the cop was totally out of line shooting him.
hope that cop ends up in jail.
shitty ass cop
Quick Draw, McGraw…
Right, but it’s your responsibility as a rider to be aware of your surroundings. How many times do you hear riders complain about people not looking out for them? Being a rider myself, I know the risks, but even with the awful visibility of my mirrors I always check them to see what’s going on around me. I think for the stretch of road he covered, he should have noticed the cop if indeed it was the case that he did not see him. Again, not trying to defend the cop at all here though.
Holy shit this is absurd that you think this…the cop was completely out of line to have fired his gun. Their ‘joyride’ as you call it was all of 15 seconds…and as soon as the second cop cars lights were visible (from the front) the bike stopped. Looks to me like these guys weren’t aware the cops were tailing them, then after they hit the throttle at the stop sign the lights came on and the dude that got shot promptly stopped his bike. With sirens, exhaust, adrenalin…who’s to say he even heard the cop telling him to put his arms up?
Cop was just found guilty. Sentencing to follow…
That’s a good start.
I hope the cop gets 11 years. I just watched the video and it is total bull on the cops behalf.
shitty situation but from watching the video …
- they took off with a cop behind them. They knew the cop was behind them as he was following them for more than 2 full minutes before they stopped and then took off from that stop sign. They took off running from the cop on purpose. That much is obvious.
- your buddy looked like a punk that is far from innocent on a regular basis (I’m just saying from a matter of quick video observation, he could be a saint for all I know but his appearance said otherwise)
- shooting him like that was excessive and that situation sucks bad. However, most young bikers dressed like that riding harleys late (2:15ish AM) at night are usually into some heavy shit (drugs, gun running, etc., etc.).
- When your friend first stopped he put his hand in his lap. he then made a slight motion with his right hand when the cop first got out and said put your hands up.
I probably would have shot him too unless I had a tazer or some other form of non lethal take down (shot gun bean bags)
My personal opinion though is that the cop was to excessive and this is a horrible situation. However, jumping on a hate wagon against the cop is stupid as shit. I dare any of you to have been in that same situation and have to make decisions like that on a daily basis. That’s a fraction of a second decision you have to make … sometime it’ll be right and sometimes it’ll be wrong. You can only do the best you can with what you have.
I seriously can not understand your logic one bit. Your four points are true (somewhat exaggerated), I won’t argue that one bit. But to say you would have shot him as well is completely ridiculous. The person who got shot did ALL the wrong things, yes, but to shoot someone in the back is outrageous. If the officer believed that the biker did have a weapon on him, he should have positioned himself behind the door and pointed the gun at him until he was flat on his face and arms/legs spread. There was another officer patrol car in front of him for backup. Clearly NO NEED to shoot him just because he turned around and looked at the cop.
I am pretty sure that the protocol for something like this is not to unload a bullet in his back after 2-3 seconds of screaming hands in the air. If it was, A LOT of people would be dead from past situations.
I would bet the cop accidentally pulled the trigger then tried to cover his ass the best he could.
Bolded for truth! The cop CLEARLY didn’t see a weapon just a body movement. Even if the guy on the bike did have a weapon how the hell would he turn 180 around to shoot the cop while he is still sitting on his bike. Total over-reaction on the cops part.
Definite possibility.
Meh, enough with the excuses for this cop. He’s probably a hot headed cop thats “sick of these bikers and their antics” and got out of the car with the attitude of “Let this guy make a move cause my trigger finger is itching”.
Eh in the cops defence the guy could have just as easily put his hands on the handlebars. I always say to the cop that “I have to go in my glovebox” and make sure my hands are always visable whenever I get pulled over… It was shady how he was postitioning his hands, but he still should not have been shot
x2
the more comfortable you make the officer, the smoother everything goes.
