My future-mother-in-law is shopping for a new car. Her husband is a bit of a car nut himself ('97 Legacy GT on studded snows in the winter and G35C in the summer) and has thus steered her towards a couple of fine choices: Saab 9-2 Aero or the 9-3. I assume she’s looking at the 9-3 wagon.
Got any input? The most important things to her are Safety, reliability, and resale, in that order. I know the 9-2 Aero is a WRX wagon, but I pretty much know nothing about the 9-3. I have it in my mind that it is designed by GM. Correct? What else do you guys know about either one?
Base invoice for the 9-3 Sportcombi 2.0T is actually a couple hundred less than base invoice for the 9-2 Aero. Too bad the 9-3 is wrong wheel drive or this would seem like a hands down win for the 9-3.
They’re different. Neat. And you can get it in Arbor Green Metallic. I asked the salesperson if you can get it in puke green and when he said yes I was instantly aroused.
Sounds like for her it’ll boil down to AWD vs FWD. She’s had scoobies forever so I’m not sure how she’d feel about not having AWD in the winter, although she did just move to Grand Island from the south towns, so snow isn’t as much of a concern as it used to be.
I think I’ll suggest she glances at the Volvo V50 T5 AWD too, and then just sit back and see what she gets. Haha if she gets the 9-2 Aero she’ll have her husband, her husband’s sons, and me all fighting for it when she’s done with it in a couple years.
