HID's

hey, i was wondering if anybody has a set of oem hid’s like the full headlamp off of like an acura tsx, tl, infiniti fx35 or any other manufactuer that comes standard with hid’s because i would like to do a full on retrofit into my golf headlights. i don’t want the drop in hids in the reflector housing cause it looks like shit and its blinding…

you can find all kinds of projectors on eBay, thats basically all you need, the only hard part is getting them aligned in the headlight youre retrofitting them in, and securing them to the headlight…

oh, and then you just need bulbs, ballasts, and wiring.

If you have a mkIV the thing to do would be get a golf ft end on the vehicle and then get a set of e-codes, it would look good and be really unique. There are some Getta’s kicking around this area, but I’ve never seen one with e-codes. You also should to the euro headlight switch, but I wouldn’t mess with the sensors for the auto leveling.

i had a kit from www.hidplace.com on my eclipse and those are great

Here is my setup with the help of www.customlightz.com (they also do a nice FX35/Tsx lense combo)

acura TLbixenon projector - with modified /spaced bowls
bmw clear zkw lense (rare - canadian e46 330ix)
modified chysler crossfire shouds
Piaa tera led city lights

love the bluing, very nice retrofit

i actually have a golf, i thought about the idea of doing oem hid’s but i can’t justify myself paying a grand for lights so i’m gonna stick with doing a retrofit. oh, and thanks for the link 6spd, i take it you have some experiance dealing with retrofits?

:wow very nice.

What did the finished product end up costing you?

from my previous DIY (ek) retro I had the following

  • $225 TL Bi-xenons
  • $300+ zkw lenses (rediculous I know - but low supply & high demand = high price)
  • $200 (estimated) bulbs, ballasts, ignitors, wiring
  • $75 Chrysler Crossfire shrounds

then
-$100 for ebay clear lense eg headlamp/housings

for the eg retrofit I paid customlightz.com
-$250 for the retro (I could never do such a clean install)
-$75 shroud extensions
-$50 new harness
-$40 shipping

I always wanted the TL/zkw combo - it has one of the sharpest cutoffs (from the zkw lense) not to mention a very wide & bright projection (from the TL projector)…the zkw lense actually makes the cutoff get sharper at further distances (basically the opposite of any other lense I have seen on any retro)

:headbang don’t look at my price breakdown then :headbang
some experience yes. go to forums at hidplanet.com as well, a great informational resource. also look into the fx35/tsx combo.

That’s crazy money just for headlights that’s a grand you could have put towards the K20 :headbang :lol

don’t make me go there with a price breakdown for that :idiots I had all the parts left over from the EK - anyways :thumb

:lol how much was your swap anyways? Because when I tell everyone that’s done a k swap how much mine was they almost piss themselves

Moved to technical.

Just an FYI…ZKW replica lenses are just as good as the real ones…the output difference is negligible. The replica’s cost like $80. I guess if you want to have the “I have ZKW’s” then that’s fine but if you’re looking quality vs price I suggest the replica lenses.

Here are my old TL’s with the replica lense (one side was color modded, other wasn’t):
