i’m in the market for my first car. I will be financing it completely. Is it a smart idea to purchase a 240sx with high mileage estimated around 200k or so as a first car? I eventually plan on saving up money and getting a sr20det in it at a later date. Will this thing blow up on me if I purchase it as my first car with around 200k mileage? See ya
ALot of us have 240s that are in the 200ks. Mine has 220k i believe. Keep in mind, the suspension and brakes also have 200k on them, so they will need repair.
It won’t blow if it was treated right. And how much are you paying if you dont mind me asking, because it might not be worth financing and old car.
You never mentioned what year either. And do a compression test before buying, plus read through the Tech section for common problems with rust and timing chain issues.
If you are financing the whole car for obvious reasons (not having the cash), then I don’t suggest it, things WILL need repair and if you have no cash on the side for repairs then you will be car-less for a while. Even the most simple of tasks becomes a huge pain in the ass when you’re broke.
If you are financing for other reasons (building credit, or just want to finance instead of buy flat-out) and have cash on the side, go ahead.
I think me may mean that he him self if paying for the hole thing, not getting a loan
Nutta is right dude.
My old engine had approx 350K km’s on it before she went. It probabley could have gone a lot longer but, drifting causes damage.
Anyway, get the comp/leak down test, listen to the engine and see if it’s running smoothly, take care of her and she’ll take care of you.
Good luck with your purchase.
Easy 8)
Ya I had an est of 300 000kms
and 150000 of that was done in 3 just over 2 years,
just taker easy and you will be fine
shit, i pulled mine at 367000 and she was running like a champ untell she blew and it was still somewhat running, Mine now has 260000 on it and runs just fine, minus some issues.
– Look the car over carefully.
– Compression test!!! Make sure each cylinder is within 5-10 PSI of each other and the numbers are within spec.
– Look or ask about oil change history. Make sure the oil is full and relatively clean when you look at the car (same with coolant).
– Check brakes, suspension, rust stuff etc.
I’d also advise having an extra chunk of money on the side, off the bat, to put into a tuneup or minor repairs that will be needed when you buy it.
With all this done, definitely go for it!
As for the swap, keep up the research, save up more than enough and go for it!!
If I’ve learned anything from owning a 240 it’s that Nissan can build a
reliable car, and a tough engine.
mine blew at 220 000…
BUT it was treated like a slut, although oilchanged etc… but it was also sprayed… so that caused breakdown very fast
well if ur purchasing a 240 with high mileage and u plan on getting an sr20det or an rb or w.e u want i would suggest that u just dont look at the engine and its mileage
hows the rust on the car you need to look at key areas. Check the fenders quarter panels, hatch, drivers side mirror, frame rails(drivers side right near the exhaust), rear taillight panel, also another key area which both of my cars are rusted out on are right at the rear tire almos were the rear bumper is make sure there is no rust or corrosion in behind, i think its where the rear mudgaurds are, both min rusted out and now theres basically two holes in my trunk…oh and expecially dont forget to check the strut towers
these things, i might have forgot a few, along with a good running engine will give you what you want if you plan on an engine swap.
you need a good frame for a high horsepower or mid horsepower(250whp) so u dont twist the chassis
good luck with the buy
