home network via house electrical system/wiring?

anyone seen these before? news to me… seems like it could come in handy for a nice clean setup.

steve, i didn’t think this would work in a million years.

We did set one up at my old office to test before we sold the setup.

It wasn’t linksys, it was another brand, I think buffalo or dlink.

Anyways, it did work just fine, I was amazed. It was a little slower than a wireless g router, but it didn’t drop out like wireless did.

Would be great for internet in your basement, where its hard to get wifi.

I have read that eventually this is how cable/internet/everything could work.
I mean everywhere not just inside the home.
I don’t totally understand it but it has to do with frequencies.

Great. Now the government will hack my toaster.

so how do I plug a power cable into my NIC?

with an Ethernet cable?

edit: some more products

so, justin, it didn’t work all that bad? I’m very interested in playing with this

The same way you plug a coaxial cable into your NIC.

sweet

The electric companies were already looking at providing broadband over their power lines…

They already run a network over it and can connect to your meters at your house…

they’ve talked about this for years, and I’ve seen the random product here & there.

I honestly never thought it would work well enough to become prevalent.

Cool

I used those at my Uncle’s house to setup my cousin’s computer. They have an old house that they didn’t want to run a line for and the wireless signal in her room wasn’t cutting it. We ordered those network over power adapters and it has worked like a champ for almost a year now. I would definitely recommend them.

Dude are you serious?!? (Unplugs toaster):snky:

Intersting. This seems like it would be a good option for my media center. Wireless for some reason is spotty, even though it is only 30’ away.

lol you weren’t actually serious were you?

you’ve never heard of these? they are shitty, but they are better than nothing

def not a good option, it will be way too slow to stream shit - hell half the time 100mbps is too slow for media center.

I’ve been using a pair of those myself since I moved into my current apartment. Never had a problem and as everyone said, speeds about the same as a wireless signal without the interuptions.

They are a tad bit pricey but worth it if wireless isn’t working for you and you can’t run ethernet cable.

yes, i have been trying to get the damn thing to fit for the past hour!!! then finally when I got it work, my computer shut-off and started smoking. Cant wait to reboot, I cant beleive that its so fast that its smoking!!!

^ lol
