How do I fix this?

So my brother was nice enough to give me his 98 Chevy malibu. However there is a problem with the car. On the front Pside, the outside edge of the rotor (1" outside edge) makes contact and grinds on the caliper. I thought maybe it had to do with the break pads, so I replaced them and then took the car out for a drive, i did not even make it to the end of the driveway before i could tell it did not fix the problem.

The best way I could explain the problem is that there is way to much play in the drive arm. I can push the the rotor/spindle/drive arm back and forth about 1.5" when the cars in the air. I don’t know much about FF cars, or about drive arms for that matter, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I do not understand that at ALL. What the heck are you talking about?

Pictures please!

Brake bracket bolts loose/broken/to long pushing rotor out?

sort of sounds like you have a really bad wheel bearing.

Thought that as well. But that would of been very obvious when he changed the pads.

Kinda confusing to what he saying but being able to move your spindle like that or any arm is’nt good…

Pics would help tho…

ding ding, Sounds like death waiting to happen.

i was going to take some pics/video but there are many youtube videos of the same problem im having

so yes it looks like its a bad wheel bearing. and after watching a few more replacement videos it does not look very difficult to replace.

thanks a TON guys for the info.
haha, even after a terrible description you guys figured it out!
