how do I get a title to a...

vehicle I never owned?

I bought a 95 camaro and got the title when i bought the car. of course I was lazy and didn’t transfer it right away and now I don’t know what i did with it. the kid i bought it from never put it in his name either so i don’t even know who the official owner is.

crappy situation. only the last titled owner can apply for the title, so you’d need to try and do some research at the DMV to try and find them, then hpe they are willing to help you out.

Good luck

carfax + internet white pages + mapquest + small cash bribe = you w/ new title to the car

Wasn’t the owner before Matt on NYSpeed?

If it hasnt been registered in 5 or 8 years in NY you can do a MV51 or mv 51B to get a title. Best bet is to do it is to do an MV-15 form at a local issuing office and find out the last title owner, contact them, get a replacement title and do it that way. You can also Bond the title. go to WWW.NYSDMV.com and start reading

Mv15 form for previous owner information must be mailed in and you have to have a good reason why you are requesting info or it will get denied

legal proceeding is a perfect choice on the mv15. This is after all in regards to proceeding to obtain ownership FYI

by law aren’t you supposed to put a vehicle in your name within xxx amount of days after buying it?

I thought if you sign the back of the title and date it you only have so many days to go to the DMV and transfer owners.

nope
