Say i was to put a motor from a brand “A” car from 2005 in a brand “B” car from 1999? How (can you?) does one get this done legally in NY?
I only know about Hondas… That information probably won’t help you
There may be VIN issues. I know when mine was plugged in they had the VIN on the screen and they scanned the reg. sticker.
I guessing they need to match.
LS in a Fox ehh?
The last fox was made in '93 so it wouldn’t be an issue… and you assume too much… who even said it was for me? :snky:
Depends in the PCM and year VIN wasn’t required in the PCM till a certain year
If its a LSx changing vin is possible anyways
Last time this came up everyone said swapping in a newer motor was legal if you kept emissions
I’ve been dreaming of swapping my 97 T/A with an LS1 or LQ4, but wasn’t sure of the vin issues it might cause.
There is ways to get a 96/97 LTx VIN into a LS based computer. It takes some fucking around, but it’s do-able.
any links/information you could share would be great
A t56 would make that auto go out of style
Search on LS1 Tech under Programming/PCM. There was a thread detailing the actual steps.
Out here they don’t do a VIN check, so I’m not worrying about it with my swap to a LS motor. Worst case, I’ll do it if I have to, but according to my sources I don’t have to out here.
when you say “out here” they don’t do a VIN check, can you elaborate? locally, WNY, or what? When I go over to the GM PCM (which will be 2003 GM Chevy Express Van), that will be the OBD2 port with which the is scanned from then on. So, registration sticker says BMW, but OBD2 says GM…how do i get around this issue?
Is it just a matter of going to a shop that doesn’t check the VIN?
Good thread topic
fail. Didn’t even read the description. I know its for you though, need a winter project…
Please built me a LS1 swapped 1995ish Impala SS
Fyi it won’t fail it for mismatching vins. Nys has no problem with engine swaps as long as the swap engine has equal or more heavier emission requirements. Which means basically all monitors have to be ready when plugged in a obd2 port. People use junkyard non program pcms in post 96 vehicles all the time. They don’t give a fuck about the vin.
Didn’t read my location, or didn’t get it; I’m not in NY or WNY for that matter! LOL. I’m “out here” in SLC, UT.
So if its an LS motor with an LS computer and i doctor everything with HP tuners it will pass? That makes me happy…
FYI - HP Tuners will not change VIN numbers in the PCM.
If they don’t give a fuck, then i give no fucks.
Where is Justin when you need him? or Pat…
