"How Do You Earn a Living" sticky

Oof, that sucks lol.

Yeah, my complaints were valid in my opinion lol.

I was also supposed to get spiffs when I started, and one week after they did that Phoenix thing and my job title changed from VLS1 to SR1. So that rustled my jimmies.

you can make the same amount of money in 2013 as you did in 2012…lol

Yep,

this place can make you miserable, People think this place is glorious but even some not so entry level positions pay mid 30s and you still might hate your life.

If you’re not a sales person or hustler and you’re serious about making a career at Ingram find some part of the company that requires XYZ certification.

For example Ingram sells Cisco stuff and requires X amount of people with a CCIE certification while this certification is hard to get you can usually get a six figure salary.

I can’t complain. Been with my company for less than 3 years and I get awesome benefits/5 weeks PTO and work 10 mins from my home. Raises go based upon your annual review but honestly 3-5% is chump change these days.

Rule of thumb is if you are in a transactional role, you are going to be paid accordingly.

and you dudes in licensing get all the slores you can handle over there…

yea, too bad there after all you hot shots on the other side of the cat walk.

If I were single this company would be a goldmine.

That being said, Thunder is right lol.

I also work at a school now, but as mechanic.

I do CAD. My company makes sound and heat protection cover’s. They are basically fiberglass blankets that can reduce db levels and/or keep heat in to protect pipes from freezing or to protect people from extreme temperatures. Depending on what materials we use they can handle 1500+ degrees. The covers can be over 3"thk fiberglass mat and use anything from vinyl to aluminum jacketing. I’ve designed covers from simple pipe skids to huge steam turbines.

Think of a turbo blanket. Very similar to what we make but on a much larger scale.

Unifrax?

Internet claims at geico.love it.great company.

Oh cool I wasnt sure if that is where you worked. I know a few people there. Sounds like a cool gig.

It’s definitely different. I’ve been doing this for 12 years. I like how challenging it can be to figure out how to cover something but at the same time i’m getting burnt out.

not sure If I posted in the thread previously, but nowadays I’m an engineer for the Town of Cheektowaga. I held a similar title for Erie County down at the Rath building previously but made a lateral move here just about 2yrs ago when I found out the same job was double the pay and they had an opening. I mostly make all of the updates to existing drawings/records on AutoCAD for the local infrastructure, but also get to dabble in design and rehab projects for existing town buildings and expansions.

We should talk Focus  I am in building envelope consulting

UGH confined space permits, I see GM isn’t the only place that has them. Some of them are so unnecessary.
