How many people tune their own cars?

I don’t trust myself with anything that I don’t feel I have intimate knowledge of. Especially when I could be potentially damaging thousands of dollars in parts. I just don’t see the point.

Yes. Tuned my S4 on 93 and then on e85. Still learning, reading and trying to figure some things out. But so far so good.

I use TunerPro and some utilities written by some guys in the Vag tuning community.

old school. Tune by ear, response, reading plugs, making passes etc. All this new fangled fuel injection tuning is for the birds lol.

Yes, Use SCT Pro Racer kit w/ advantage software and Xcal3 flasher/scanner

What are some sites that are good to learn about how to tune and the affects of each adjustment. I’ve been itching to learn about it.

I didn’t tune the motor tune on my carbut I’ll be tuning my nitrous with jets and pulling timing in my MSD

I’m a tweener.

I’ll tune my own stuff if it’s cheap. But if its my pride and joy I’ll have a professional do it.

I’m not bad but I just like the peace of mind knowing that someone that has more experience did it. However, that doesn’t stop me from double checking.

It works. lol

That being said, I use a tactrix cable and ECUFlash for evo’s and dsm’s. I’ve used the AEM uego and Innovate LC1 widebands, and my preference is the UEGO.

You dont even have dsmlink, and you cant even spell crome right.

ive tuned my car but it was only to wg pressure
dsmlink v2 + aem uego. i didnt have the uego wired to the ecu though i was just going off of the gauge.
also an autometer EGT guage was being used

Nope. Even the GM shops dopn’t know too much about my application.

. How do you like the pro racer. Easy or hard to use. You can send me a pm.

Send them over formulals1 at gmail.com

Nope.

Too much money tied up in the motor to risk destroying it because I want to go cheap and learn to do it myself. Pay to play.

Yup

Megasquirt with an LC1 and a det cans type setup for the datsun. I’ve had it to 14psi testing, no evidence of detonation when I tore it down. It was torn down due to high leakdown, the last guy to get into this motor(not me) put the wrong rings in it.:fail:

If I do more to the RX7 I’ll buy hptuners and tune that myself too.

I understand your statement and this is good advice for many but I assure you not all people self tune to save money.

I tuned my GTP with a AFC like 5 years ago. I htink that still holds the 2nd fastest gen3 m9. My camaro I don’t bother to even scan it, I have Mike at NewEra tune it and he’s way better then I could. Street drive the car with huge cams, also one of the fastest cam only LS1 cars. (most of the fast guys don’t street drive there cars)

Agreed. There’s satisfaction in it.

I self tune so I have an excuse, lol.

I think It did pretty well running 14.2 at 98 on 9psi, for having ~30-70% leakdown and 60-80psi compression.

+1

I like being able to log and make changes at anytime and knowing that if it is wrong it is on my hands.

+1

I also didn’t want to be stuck having to wait on someone else for tuning or not be able to make changes

That large cam and needing a pro tune is a myth  trex has stalled twice on me and both times it was from dialing in the VE and not redoing the idle air flow. Other then that it drives great with 3.73s it could really use some more gear like suggested by thunder though.

? congrads your car stalled twice, glad you happy with all thats you have done with it?
