How many people tune their own cars?

Just curious if you voted yes what products do you use?

Figured this might be helpful for others who need product advice

Yes

HPTuners
NGK AFX Wideband

I’d like to…but I’m 100% retarded when it comes to that stuff. My brain just doesn’t work like that:( Most I’ve ever done has been timing and fuel pressure adjustments…I’ll leave the more advanced stuff to the guys that know their shit.

From first start to pump gas/street tune yes… once it moved to e85 and doubled the boost, no. Leave it to the pro. I know I’d forget some little thing that would fuck me in the end.

Autronic SM4.

HP Tuners

Things have been going pretty well so far

Yeah I can do the basic stuff with my car, set the idle, scale injectors to get the fuel trims right on. That is about as far as I go, I don’t have the patience to get deeper. Though I read up on it whenever I get the chance.

Ecuflash.

Yes I have the ability to do basic shit. No, I’m smart enough to know that there are people much smarter than me when it comes to tuning.

Pull plugs. Street tune it. Lm2. READING. If I paid someone to tune it it would prolly be faster but my pride is worth more. Talking w Good friends and me wrenching make my car fast

Lz when u tuning my truck?

lol I need more credits.

I actually started looking at other peoples hand held canned tunes and what they change on trucks.

I can do basic things like global, deadtime, idle, stft, ltft, i have a general idea of the timing tables and the fuel trims to do it if i had to in an emergency.

DSM link was designed for the everyday guy to tune his own car. But like choda said it is faster if someone else does it. Seeing as i don’t have any pride or money to fix things that break i pay the “other guy”

Untill gary burch dies and or refuses to tune my car i will continue to take it to him.

If i had to pay Emery or another shop i would probably get out of modding because i could not afford to tune my car every time i added a new “fun part” or a maintance item that requires tuning.

use to go to gary for everything but moved away and had to learn some stuff to get by. slowly trying to learn.

Dsm link v3

I don’t. I’m sure I could learn but from what I’ve seen there’s a lot of trial and error associated with it. If you don’t want to waste time/money learning then you are better off leaving it to the pros.

Fbody - Mike at New Era
Subaru - Cobb shelf tune, soon to be Mike at Innovative

I do that all the time. I have a bunch of programmer tunes if you want me to send you some. I think mine are diablo and something else idk.

I’m not confident yet to tune something such as a turbo 418 but I’ll get there. I’ve street tuned 20+ cars with my hpt.

Yes.

FAST Wideband
AMS 1000
Couple screwdrivers & Jets

Yes and no but i’m learning by watching what my tuner changes and lots of reading. (HP tuners)

Choda and LZ I have some credits and can load the superchips tune and you could work off of that. It should make it easier with a basic tune already on it and just fine tune it to how he wants it.

I haven’t tuned my car yet but I plan on having Gary tune my car and rob and I will do the basics before taking it to Gary, when I do my Honda jd will be doing that

Dsmlink v3 and Chrome

LZ, I have a blackbear tune on my truck and its pretty sweet. Copy it and put it on JT’s truck.

ive been tuning peoples megasquirt ms1’s and ms2’s for about 2 years now.

Yeah yeah!!!
